Some more background, and a better perspective on whatever this anomaly turns out to be.. The Examiner. Excerpts:
The so-called "Baltic Sea UFO" is in the news again this week after a research vessel returned to its co-ordinates and sent a team of divers down to the seabed for a closer look. Despite having a live feed and access to updates on Facebook, so far, only cryptic messages have been released.
What's down there? At this point, it's either the biggest story the world has ever known or a massive publicity stunt engineered to lure in faithful UFO disclosure advocates. Either way, the public (believers and non-believers alike) are waiting for every breathless dispatch.
The story began last summer when treasure hunters Peter Lindberg and Dennis Asberg were sweeping an area off the Swedish coast when their side-scan SONAR picked up a large, rounded object on the seabed hundreds of feet below the surface.
Initial observation aboard the vessel revealed the object was not like any other sunken vessel ever discovered because of its immense size (200 feet in circumference) and its unusual, circular shape. Not having the means to dive down on the mystery object, its position was recorded and all data saved for later review.
In July, 2011, Lindberg and Asberg studied the data further and released a video of the SONAR images on YouTube, which quickly went viral. Paranormal researchers immediately seized on the video as evidence of ancient alien visitation and the object was nicknamed the "Millennium Falcon" because of its uncanny resemblance to the spaceship made famous by the Star Wars saga.
For his part, Lindberg has left the alien speculation open to debate. In his initial statements he landed on the side of something man-made and floated the possibility of a sunken Stonehenge or a remnant of the fabled Lost City of Atlantis.
Debunkers (mainly scientists) have decried the early speculation, believing rather that the object is merely an anomaly of the equipment used or perhaps a sunken vessel, possibly of Russian origin, lost more than a century ago.

Over the past few days, only dribs and drabs of information have been forthcoming, the most tantalizing being the "breaking news" dispatch released on June 7, from the research team's own website, claiming that, "The divers are now down and investigating the circle and reports from the ship say they are really amazed. There is definitely something unusual hiding at the seabed – a Mystery Beneath. More information and pictures will be released next week."
Then, on Sunday, Dennis Asberg sent out a Facebook update which only adds to the confusion while deepening the mystery--and the hype. "Everything is top secret now because of the risks, hope you all understand this is no game." posts Asberg. "But the truth will be reported shortly."
Sketchy details are more the province of the treasure hunter rather than the legitimate scientist, so these dispatches have to be taken with the proverbial grain of salt. But, if there is a startling, world-changing discovery in the offing, even the dedicated professional would be hard-pressed on just how to release that news.
So, maybe, there is something to this after all. If it turns out to be the prototype gun turret from some old Russian warship, it will still be an important archaeological find.
But, if it ends up being real evidence that ancient aliens have indeed visited Earth, it could be the biggest story of all time.
Either way, stay tuned...
I like this interpretation of events a little better than yesterday's post, as the term "hoax" was thrown out far too quickly to be impartial or realistic. Events unfolding in real time do not have a schedule, and are not subject to the whims and wishes of the Internet observer or blogger. This event will play out as it plays out, and I, for one, will be patient for whatever statement Ocean X provides.. When they provide it. If it is indeed a Russian warship, that will be a cool consolation prize, as any new archaeological find always is..
Having said that, I'd still love to see this "anomaly" rise out of the ocean, live on every news network, and fly off. If that happens, I will go crazy with glee! C'mon aliens: Give us a show!
