Excerpts:An assistant attorney general for the state of Michigan has carried on a half-year-long campaign against the openly gay student assembly president of the University of Michigan. Among other actions targeting Chris Armstrong, Andrew Shirvell has posted images of Armstrong at a blog called Chris Armstrong watch and made a number of claims against Armstrong, including accusations that the young man has seduced fellow students in order to coax them into a "homosexual lifestyle," and that an orgy took place in Armstrong’s dorm room, reported CNN.com in a Sept. 29 article. Shirvell’s blog is maintained under the name "Concerned Michigan Alumnus," the article said.The CNN.com article included a clip from news program Anderson Cooper 360. Shirvell appeared on the program on Sept. 28 to explain why he had spent so much time and energy "protesting" the college student.Before broadcasting the interview, Cooper showed images taken from the blog, including one of Armstrong that had been written over with the word "Resign." A rainbow flag sporting a swastika had been added to the photo, with an arrow pointing from the flag to Armstrong. Cooper reported that the blog called Armstrong a "privileged pervert," and accused him of "sexual escapades at churches and children’s playgrounds." The blog also referred to Armstrong as a "Nazi-like recruiter for the cult that is homosexuality," and accused the young man of being "racist and elitist to the core."Here's the tell, babies..The Detroit News also reported on the rebuke in a Sept. 16 article. The story said that Shervill had taken exception to a comment about "self discovery" that Armstrong had made, interpreting the remark as an attempt to push fellow students into same-sex encounters. "It is clear that Armstrong’s remarks constituted nothing more than a thinly veiled attempt to cause sexually confused, and perhaps some impressionable, 17- and 18-year-olds to experiment sexually with members of their own gender," Shervill’s blog charged. (Projection, anyone?)
The blog also characterized Armstrong as "a viciously militant homosexual activist," (Blaming the external object forinternal fears - me)the article said. The blog also mentioned protesting Armstrong at events. Anderson Cooper said that Shervill had gone so far as to stand outside Armstrong’s residence and take video footage. Cooper also reported that Shervill had monitored Armstrong’s Facebook page and written about Armstrong’s friends and family members.
Prior to the broadcast of his interview with Shervill, Cooper told viewers, "This is a public figure, a grown-up, fixating on a 21-year-old college student, dedicating a blog to vilifying him, scouring his Facebook page, making unproven allegations."And:"It appears, though, that you are obsessed with this young gay man," Cooper told Shirvell, before going on to cite the state of Michigan’s criminal code regarding cyber-stalking and cyber-bullying. Cooper asked Shirvell whether he fit the description of a cyber-bully, given the accusations he had posted online against Armstrong."No, I’m totally not--and that’s a totally mischaracterization," Shirvell responded. "Do you consider yourself a bigot?" Cooper asked."Absolutely not," Shirvell replied. "I’m a Christian citizen exercising my First Amendment rights. I have no problem with the fact that Chris is a homosexual," added Shirvell. "I have a problem with the fact that he is advancing a very radical agenda.""It seems like you hate this guy because he’s gay," Cooper said."Well, Anderson, that’s your spin on it," Shirvell replied. Israeli cyber unit responsible for Iran computer worm – claim Excerpts in italics:Computer experts have discovered a biblical reference embedded in the code of the computer worm that has pointed to Israel as the origin of the cyber attack. The code contains the word "myrtus", which is the Latin biological term for the myrtle tree. The Hebrew word for myrtle, Hadassah, was the birth name of Esther, the Jewish queen of Persia.In the Bible, The Book of Esther tells how the queen pre-empted an attack on the country's Jewish population and then persuaded her husband to launch an attack before being attacked themselves. Ralf Langner, a German researcher, claims that Unit 8200, the signals intelligence arm of the Israeli defence forces, perpetrated the computer virus attack by infiltrating the software into the Bushehr nuclear power station Mr Langer said: "If you read the Bible you can make a guess."Israel threatened an attack, and an attack happened. Wouldn't it be more surprising if Israel didn't do it?

A 41-year-man was arrested this morning after a cement truck was driven into the gates of Leinster House.
The words 'Toxic Bank Anglo' were displayed on the cement mixing drum of the truck.
It appeared the driver escaped through a hatch on the roof before being arrested at about 7.15am.
The man is being questioned at Pearse Street Garda station under section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984. No one was injured in the incident and minor damage was caused to the gates of Leinster House.
Recovery crews initially attempted to reverse the truck from the gates but it would not move. It is understood brake lines and electric cables had been cut.
Gardaí have now removed the truck from scene using a large recovery tow truck.
Kildare Street and Molesworth Street have now reopened to traffic.
Yawn. This was pure spectacle in Ireland, where they've definitely had worse attacks.
What if this had happened in D.C. or one of the other state capitols? Here's what: Non-stop media coverage, and the inevitable, televised rise and acceleration to visibility, power, and mass consciousness of the extremists that will further inject fear, anger, and instability into our national discourse. At this critical moment of history, when subtlety, nuance, diplomacy, and intelligence are so needed to navigate multiple domestic and international issues, humanity as a whole seems to be on an opposite path, almost taking pride of not knowing of or understanding any other worldview than its own. And yeah, I do believe it will happen here too, sooner probably, than later..
Try as I might, I just can't see too many positive outcome scenarios from the data presented..

Comparison/Contrast comic proving Huxley the visionary, not Orwell. As a fan of Orwell, I should have also read Huxley, but haven't. Not because I was forbidden, but because I'm easily distracted and intellectually lazy. There is so much information to choose from, the choice to read significant works like Huxley is diluted by my access to thousands of other competing stimuli. Which proves Huxley's point perfectly.
Still wondering why the really staunch homophobes always end up in the gaysex sex scandals? It's not proven yet, but it certainly feels like Eddie Long is a SecretHomo. This quote explains why: Long frequently denounces homosexual behavior. A 2007 article in the Southern Poverty Law Center's magazine called him "one of the most virulently homophobic black leaders in the religiously based anti-gay movement."To come to this determination,that's really all I need: We hate what we fear presented to us in our external reality, whatever that may be. We hate passionately when The Fear invades our internal reality. And, I think that, no matter the effort, our most extreme polarities(like homophobia) always find ways to manifest, and usually, we are the last to know about it. Cyber security experts say they have identified the world's first known cyber super weapon designed specifically to destroy a real-world target – a factory, a refinery, or just maybe a nuclear power plant.
The cyber worm, called Stuxnet, has been the object of intense study since its detection in June. As more has become known about it, alarm about its capabilities and purpose have grown. Some top cyber security experts now say Stuxnet's arrival heralds something blindingly new: a cyber weapon created to cross from the digital realm to the physical world – to destroy something.
At least one expert who has extensively studied the malicious software, or malware, suggests Stuxnet may have already attacked its target – and that it may have been Iran's Bushehr nuclear power plant, which much of the world condemns as a nuclear weapons threat.
The appearance of Stuxnet created a ripple of amazement among computer security experts. Too large, too encrypted, too complex to be immediately understood, it employed amazing new tricks, like taking control of a computer system without the user taking any action or clicking any button other than inserting an infected memory stick.

"Until a few days ago, people did not believe a directed attack like this was possible," Ralph Langner, a German cyber-security researcher, told the Monitor in an interview. He was slated to present his findings at a conference of industrial control system security experts Tuesday in Rockville, Md. "What Stuxnet represents is a future in which people with the funds will be able to buy an attack like this on the black market. This is now a valid concern."

Stuxnet surfaced in June and, by July, was identified as a hypersophisticated piece of malware probably created by a team working for a nation state(hmm.. Which one?), say cyber security experts. One of the last codes Stuxnet sends is an enigmatic “DEADF007.” (Dead Fool?)Then the fireworks begin, although the precise function being overridden is not known, Langner says. It may be that the maximum safety setting for RPMs on a turbine is overridden, or that lubrication is shut off, or some other vital function shut down. Whatever it is, Stuxnet overrides it, Langner’s analysis shows.
"After the original code [on the PLC] is no longer executed, we can expect that something will blow up soon," Langner writes in his analysis. "Something big."

For those worried about a future cyber attack that takes control of critical computerized infrastructure – in a nuclear power plant, for instance – Stuxnet is a big, loud warning shot across the bow, especially for the utility industry and government overseers of the US power grid.

"Essentially, the letters say they are all going to heaven to meet Jesus and their deceased relatives," Whitmore said at an earlier news conference today. "Some of the letters were saying goodbye."
"They indicated they were going to the next life, if you will. I'm not quoting exactly, I'm paraphrasing of course, but that's essentially what they said," he added.
I don't think they were suicidal. I think they fully expected to die in whatever cataclysm they had deemed was happening. When it didn't happen, the leader became disoriented and unable to process. That's my take, anyway..

A mind reading machine is a step closer to reality after scientists discovered a way of translating people's thoughts into words.Fantastical thoughts and theories are becoming concrete and real at an amazing rate these days. If this rate of technological advancement continues, where will we be in another 10 years? I'm not sure we can realistically envision the furthest advances, as we probably won't have enough information to form Context.
Another alteration to the world's official history. In the last several years, archaeologists have found large pyramids and/or ancient urban centers in Central and South America, Africa, and now, Europe. Experts are dating these pyramids 12 to 26 thousand years old, which begs the question: Where is the rest of this history? Was Bosnia the world's seat of power, or one of many more, yet to be discovered pyramids?
During the course of several different conversations with friends who garden(or know those who do), there seems to be a consensus regarding the declining output in their respective harvests. Nothing is producing like it has in years past. Firsthand, I agree. This might be my first year of flying solo, but dad has tended large gardens for well over 50, maybe close to 60 years, and so my "consultant" has a vast storehouse of knowledge and technique he's imparted to me over the last several years. Our vines(The ones not destroyed or repeatedly maimed by a family of groundhogs) didn't come close to last year's yield, and won't. Same with the peppers. Belgium might be breaking up with itself.. This is the first I've heard regarding any political turmoil in Belgium. So, to recap.. The King thinks the country could break up, the previous seven weeks of seven party talks(so politically doomed..) were unsuccessful, the Belgian Parliaments form their government on a day to day basis(!!), and they haven't had a stable government in three years. Oh, yeah, and the whole Administrative Chair of the EU thing.. Will Belgium indeed split up? Will it remain peaceful, or will there be unrest during any "reorganization" of the country? If there is violence, just how violent will the situation become? Having no background whatsoever in Belgian politics, I don't know what the best outcome is, I only hope it is the one undertaken..

He's alone in the Brazilian Amazon, but for how long? Excerpts:
The most isolated man on the planet will spend tonight inside a leafy palm-thatch hut in the Brazilian Amazon. As always, insects will darn the air. Spider monkeys will patrol the treetops. Wild pigs will root in the undergrowth. And the man will remain a quietly anonymous fixture of the landscape, camouflaged to the point of near invisibility.
That description relies on a few unknowable assumptions, obviously, but they're relatively safe. The man's isolation has been so well-established—and is so mind-bendingly extreme—that portraying him silently enduring another moment of utter solitude is a practical guarantee of reportorial accuracy.
He's an Indian, and Brazilian officials have concluded that he's the last survivor of an unconnected tribe. They first became aware of his existence nearly 15 years ago and for a decade launched numerous expeditions to track him, to ensure his safety, and to try to establish peaceful contact with him. In 2007, with ranching and logging closing in quickly on all sides, government officials declared a 31-square-mile area around him off-limits to trespassing and development.

History offers few examples of people who can rival his solitude in terms of duration and degree. The one that comes closest is the "Lone Woman of San Nicolas"—an Indian woman first spotted by an otter hunter in 1853, completely alone on an island off the coast of California. Catholic priests who sent a boat to fetch her determined that she had been alone for as long as 18 years, the last survivor of her tribe. But the details of her survival were never really fleshed out. She died just weeks after being "rescued."
Certainly other last tribesmen and -women have succumbed unobserved throughout history, the world unaware of their passing. But what makes the man in Brazil unique is not merely the extent of his solitude or the fact that the government is aware of his existence. It's the way they've responded to it.
Advanced societies invariably have subsumed whatever indigenous populations they've encountered, determining those tribes' fates for them. But Brazil is in the middle of an experiment. If peaceful contact is established with the lone Indian, they want it to be his choice. They've dubbed this the "Policy of No Contact." After years of often-tragic attempts to assimilate into modern life the people who still inhabit the few remaining wild places on the planet, the policy is a step in a totally different direction. The case of the lone Indian represents its most challenging test.

He eats mostly wild game, which he either hunts with his bow-and-arrow or traps in spiked-bottom pitfalls. He grows a few crops around his huts, including corn and manioc, and often collects honey from hives that stingless bees construct in the hollows of tree trunks. Some of the markings he makes on trees have suggested to indigenous experts that he maintains a spiritual life, which they've speculated might help him survive the psychological toil of being, to a certain extent, the last man standing in a world of one.

But how long can his isolation last? I get Facebook updates telling me what people half a world away are eating for breakfast. Corporations and governments are pushing deeper and farther than ever in search of bankable resources. How can it be that no one has flushed this man out already? In 2010, can anyone realistically live off the grid?
We all inhabit multiple universes simultaneously, even at this moment. Your connections and experiences are at once uniquely personal, yet can also be viewed through the larger lenses of family, friends, neighborhoods, towns, etc.., combining and overlapping with other universes just by the act of associating with others. Think about a single string in a piece of cloth; over, under, crossing paths to create something.. Larger.
This man, however, has almost no connections. He truly is "a world of one." His Universe is so far removed from ours that neither he, nor we have much in common aside from sharing the same planet. This "uncontacted" man must be on a much higher spiritual path, with a humble existence, flowing with nature and natural patterns, introverted behavior(and the probability of non-verbal stasis) for great spans of time, if not the majority of his life.
Upon further thought(and if you believe in re-incarnation-which I do), "higher spiritual path" should also include the possibility of reward. Communing with nature and having pure, un-interrupted thought for a large portion of your life sounds like a reward to me. The Buddhists believe in the elimination of Desire, in all its forms. A solitary life committed to nature and thought sounds like a majority of Desire has been eliminated and that a higher plateau has been achieved.

Until now, these have been treated as a theoretical matter”—especially by BP and even the government, which for weeks denied the existence of the plumes. This catastrophe is beyond huge. If Florida or some other predominantly white, U.S. or U.K. aligned country were to disappear underwater, you KNOW there'd be a stink.. I never really thought out any scenario involving mass panic and the Love Parade(especially the original festival in Germany), but tragically, Saturday, they connected. One of the biggest Utopian festivals on the planet fell victim and died to the negative forces its participants strived so hard to rise above. What a terrible (and so unexpected!) way to die, not knowing why the crowd has turned, only that everything got horrible, quickly. While other current events might be bigger or more tragic, this really shakes me up. The Love Parade. The last place on Earth one would expect anyone to die..I imagine the festival is dead now, too. This celebration of that amazing spirit of the late 80's, the fall of Communism, the technological threshold of The Future, the Potential of the Near Future were all seeded by ecstatic German twentysomethings dancing nonstop to techno music. God love those post WW2 Germans: They're always capable of the most unexpected behavior..
