Meanwhile In Beijing: "For The Respect Of The Motherland, We Must Go To War With Japan"

Fucking awesome.  China and Japan might go all Crips and Bloods over some tiny islands in the East China Sea.  Sounds reasonable and not at all batshit crazy!  ZeroHedge:

Anti-US protests sweeping across the entire Muslim world (which are continuing today), besieging, attacking and burning down US embassies, are not the only thing that the central banker policy vehicle known as "the markets" have to ignore in the coming days and weeks. Cause here comes China: "Thousands besiege Japan's embassy in Beijing over Tokyo's assertion of control over disputed islands in East China Sea." And China is not happy: "For The Respect Of The Motherland, We Must Go To War With Japan." Sure enough, where would the US be if the focal point of this escalation in militant anger - the Senkaku Islands - was not merely the latest expression of Pax Americana, and America's national interests abroad.
We already discussed the inevitable implications of the meaningless populist agitation over the contested Senkaku Islands. Here it is playing out in real time:
Protests in China are growing over Japan's assertion of control of disputed islands.

Thousands of Chinese besieged the Japanese embassy in Beijing on Saturday, hurling rocks, eggs and bottles with protests reported in other major cities over the territorial dispute in the East China Sea.

Paramilitary police with shields and batons barricaded the embassy, holding back and occasionally fighting with slogan-chanting, flag-waving protesters who at times appeared to be trying to storm the building.

"Return our islands! Japanese devils get out!" some shouted.

One of them held up a sign reading: "For the respect of the motherland, we must go to war with Japan."

The protests were not confined in Beijing. In Shanghai, streets around the Japanese consulate, in the were cordoned off on Saturday even as hundreds of police allowed a small groups of people in at a time to protest.

"The Chinese government has not done much to quell the inflamed passions of its citizens," Al Jazeera's Marga Ortigas reported from Hong Kong on Saturday.

Protesters are also calling for a widespread boycott against Japanese businesses and products.

Liu Gang, a migrant worker from the southern region of Guangxi, said: "We hate Japan. We've always hated Japan. Japan invaded China and killed a lot of Chinese. We will never forget."

Japanese media are also reporting that large anti-Japan protests were held in the Chinese cities of Xian, Changsha, Nanjing and Suzhou.

Kyodo news agency said protesters attacked a dozen Japanese restaurants in Suzhou.

Sino-Japanese ties have long been plagued by China's bitter memories of Japan's military aggression in the 1930s and 1940s and present rivalry over resources and regional clout.

Relations between the two countries, whose business and trade ties have blossomed in recent years, chilled in 2010, after Japan arrested a Chinese trawler captain whose boat collided with Japanese Coast Guard vessels near the Japanese-controlled islands of Senkaku, called Diaoyu in China.

Anti-Japanese sentiment surfaced anew in the last few weeks after the Japanese government purchased the islands from their private owners.

Though Japan has controlled the islands for decades, China saw the purchase as further proof of Tokyo's refusal to negotiate.

In response to Japan's purchase, China on Friday sent six surveillance ships into what Japan says are its territorial waters.
And that's how "escalation" always begins.

We'll add this to Fall 2012's Awesome TeeVee lineup!  You want Apocalypse?  We got Apocalypse-Asian style!  "Ninja-nukes," anyone?  Karate-based cyber-viruses?

Also:  What's China going to do to Japan that they're not already doing to themselves?  Drop bags of microwavable popcorn on them?  Come on, yo..  Maybe you two could focus on existing cleanup, rather than creating more nuclear waste?  Since it's 2012, it would really behoove the All Of Us if you two could keep it together at least until January, when at the very least the Mayan Madness will settle way down..  Couldya do that?

Couldya try?

Couldya try to try?

Armada of British naval power massing in the Gulf as Israel prepares an Iran strike

It's never a good sign to see the phrase "Western leaders are convinced.." in an article about the Middle East.  I'm still going with "bluff" on this one, but everybody's trigger fingers are getting itchier..  The Telegraph, via The Extinction Protocol:

September 16, 2012 – MIDDLE EAST - An armada of U.S. and British naval power is massing in the Persian Gulf in the belief that Israel is considering a pre-emptive strike against Iran’s covert nuclear weapons program. Battleships, aircraft carriers, minesweepers and submarines from 25 nations are converging on the strategically important Strait of Hormuz in an unprecedented show of force as Israel and Iran move towards the brink of war. Western leaders are convinced that Iran will retaliate to any attack by attempting to mine or blockade the shipping lane through which passes around 18 million barrels of oil every day, approximately 35 per cent of the world’s petroleum traded by sea.  A blockade would have a catastrophic effect on the fragile economies of Britain, Europe the United States and Japan, all of which rely heavily on oil and gas supplies from the Gulf. The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s most congested international waterways. It is only 21 miles wide at its narrowest point and is bordered by the Iranian coast to the north and the United Arab Emirates to the south. In preparation for any pre-emptive or retaliatory action by Iran, warships from more than 25 countries, including the United States, Britain, France, Saudi Arabia and the UAE, will today begin an annual 12-day exercise. The war games are the largest ever undertaken in the region. They will practice tactics in how to breach an Iranian blockade of the strait and the force will also undertake counter-mining drills. The multi-national naval force in the Gulf includes three US Nimitz class carrier groups, each of which has more aircraft than the entire complement of the Iranian air force. The carriers are supported by at least 12 battleships, including ballistic missile cruisers, frigates, destroyers and assault ships carrying thousand of US Marines and Special Forces. The British component consists of four British minesweepers and the Royal Fleet Auxiliary Cardigan Bay, a logistics vessel. HMS Diamond, a brand-new £1billion Type 45 destroyer, one of the most powerful ships in the British fleet, will also be operating in the region. In addition, commanders will also simulate destroying Iranian combat jets, ships and coastal missile batteries. In the event of war, the main threat to the multi-national force will come from the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps navy, which is expected to adopt an “access-denial” strategy in the wake of an attack, by directly targeting US warships, attacking merchant shipping and mining vital maritime chokepoints in the Persian Gulf. Defense sources say that although Iran’s capability may not be technologically sophisticated, it could deliver a series of lethal blows against British and US ships using mini-subs, fast attack boats, mines and shore-based anti-ship missile batteries. Next month, Iran will stage massive military maneuvers of its own, to show that it is prepared to defend its nuclear installations against the threat of aerial bombardment. The exercise is being showcased as the biggest air defense war game in the Islamic Republic’s history, and will be its most visible response yet to the prospect of an Israeli military strike. Using surface-to-air missiles, unmanned drones and state-of-the-art radar, Iran’s Revolutionary Guards and air force will combine to test the defenses of 3,600 sensitive locations throughout the country, including oil refineries and uranium enrichment facilities.

Stay tuned for Fall, 2012!   Chock full of intrigue, surprises, and maybe just maybe, a whole lot of Apocalyptic bloodshed!  Coming to a TeeVee near you!

Cooperation

It was a:
1.  full-fledged military attack,

2. long in the planning (no spontaneous demonstration, although the demonstration helped disguise the attack, and perhaps fooled the Americans into underestimating the situation),

3. by a paramilitary group associated with the government just installed by NATO/American violence (not to mention closely associated with the fighters against the Syrian government being sponsored by the American government), although they have done a better-than-usual job at hiding the connections,

4.and with the assistance of at least some of the Libyan government security service, who helped deliver the Ambassador into the hands of the attackers, where he appears to have received some very rough justice, but justice nonetheless (I wonder if it included the special treatment given to Gadaffi),

5.  and the response is yet more American violence, pretending to send drones and troops to Libya which are already there and haven't stopped operating,

6. all for the purpose of drone-slaughtering some al-Qaeda leader so Obama can appear to be strong and manly and re-electable,

7. which is highly ironic given that the original cause of the attack was the drone-slaughtering in Afghanistan of an al-Qaeda leader from Libya.

Meanwhile, the infamous movie - if it exists - that has sparked protests elsewhere appears to have been produced by a man named Nakoula Basseley Nakoula, who pleaded guilty to felony bank fraud:
(If you only visit one link from his post, let it be this one..)
"A variety of documents filed in the U.S. District Court case were sealed at the request of prosecutors and Nakoula’s lawyer. The sealed records--from the transcript of Nakoula’s change-of-plea hearing to sentencing memoranda--appear to indicate that his plea agreement with the government included some form of cooperation."

As soon as he was released he started to work on the movie. It may be he is just a con man who took a sizable amount to make a movie and just produced a cheap trailer. Was this part of his 'cooperation'? Who is really behind the movie? Who financed it?

"Producer Of Anti-Islam Film Was Fed Snitch"
"In remarks stressing that the U.S. government had “absolutely nothing to do with” the anti-Islam film that has touched off violence in the Middle East, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton yesterday sought to quash Arab concerns that the “disgusting and reprehensible” movie was somehow produced or condoned by American officials.
However, Clinton’s attempt to distance the U.S. from “Innocence of Muslims”--and, by extension, its felonious producer--may be complicated by the revelation that Nakoula Basseley Nakoula became a government informant after his 2009 arrest for bank fraud, The Smoking Gun has learned."

and
"In return for Nakoula’s cooperation, prosecutors provided Snyder with a letter noting that his substantial assistance to authorities warranted a sentence reduction.

Along with citing the government missive--known as a 5K1 letter--Henderson told Snyder that Nakoula’s kin would suffer financially during his imprisonment since he was he family’s sole breadwinner. Henderson also reported that Nakoula suffered from various maladies, including Hepatitis C, a “serious diabetes problem,” and “prostate issues” for which he had undergone surgery. “He is on ten medications at this point,” added Henderson.

Nakoula’s involvement in the fraud, Henderson stated, was caused by his need to support his family, including his elderly father. “At the time he did this, he was out of work in the gas station industry, which is what he's really familiar in this country,” said Henderson, adding, “and he was working swap meets for a few dollars every weekend trying to support his family.”

Snyder eventually ordered Nakoula to serve 21 months in prison to be followed by six months in a federal halfway house. The sentence was about a year less than the punishment sought in separate submissions by probation officials and federal prosecutors."

What would this gas station operator, beholden to the American government, know about producing a movie?   Sounds to me like more than just Muslims are getting played, here..  Just look at the left/right split in almost any comments section of any site carrying this story.  Or on Facebook, of course..  Wow!  We are a stupid people..  And no, I don't claim to have an exact answer:  It's just so obvious something isn't right, here..   But hey, what the fuck does some hillbilly out here in the bum-fuck Ozarks know about anything, right?  Continuing to follow..

Fukushima Update: September 15, 2012

Cs137 in Pacific ocean 500~800km from Fukushima, “10 times higher than norm”.  The Voice of Russia, via Fukushima Diary.
[]
Russian scientists find radiation off Fukushima coast

Russian scientists have detected radiation in the north-west of the Pacific Ocean at a distance between 500-800 km to the east from Japan’s troubled Fukushima-1 nuclear power plant.

The expedition of the Russian geographical society has detected that the concentration of cesium-137 in that area exceeds the norm 10 times.

This is the first time when concentration of cesium 137 was found in the local sea waters while the air is clean.

The level of radiation near the Russian coast is normal.
In March 2011, a powerful earthquake and tsunami caused a nuclear disaster at the Fukushima-1 NPP.

More than 1000Bq/Kg was measured in 99.4% of a village area in no-man’s-zone.  Now that's thorough coverage!  Also from Fukushima Diary.

It’s desperate to try to restart farming in Fukushima, especially in 30km area.

They measured more than 1,000 Bq/Kg of cesium from more than 99% areas in Katsuraomura Fukushima.

Katsuraomura is in Futaba gun, no-man’s-land in Fukushima, where is 26km from Fukushima plant.

The local government divided the village area into 1038 of 100m×100m areas, took 5 samples from each 100m×100m area to calculate each average. The measurement was done from May to July of 2012.

Hazard area and highly radioactive areas were excluded.

The result was like this below,

~ 1,000 Bq/Kg : 6 locations

1,000 ~ 4,999 Bq/Kg : 626 locations

5,000 ~ 9,999 Bq/Kg : 354 locations

10,000 Bq/Kg ~ : 52 locations

Min : 742 Bq/Kg

Max : 18,890 Bq/kg

In 99.4% of the village area, they measured more than 1,000 Bq/Kg from soil.

They measured more than 5,000 Bq/Kg in 39% of the village area, which they need to remove the surface soil.

However, the village headman still thinks it can be resolved by decontamination to state like this below,

「村内の広範囲が汚染されている。国に農地除染をしっかり行うよう要請する」

Large parts of the village area are contaminated. We are going to request the government to decontaminate the farmland sufficiently.

Yukio Edano OKs Restart of Construction of New Reactors in Aomori, Shimane  Because, after all, nuclear energy is safe!  Ex-SKF:

Yukio "There is no immediate effect on health" Edano, Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry who will have technically lost his portfolio on nuclear issues come September 19 (when the new Nuclear Regulatory Commission under Goshi Hosono's ministry takes over the nuclear regulatory oversight from NISA), approved the resumption of construction of two new reactors.

So much for the Noda administration's "pledge" to have zero nuclear power plant operating in 2030. (We're just shocked. Shocked, aren't we?)

Good to see Edano's concern is with his fellow countrymen, not his stock portfolio..

Who made the anti-Muslim video? What L.A. County knows but is not saying.

Huh.  More intrigue surrounding this bunch of "Coptic Christians."  Raw Story.

A movie cannot shoot in Los Angeles County without a permit, and a permit makes public the names of the film’s writer, director, and producer.

This means that answers to the question of who was behind “Innocence of Muslims,” the anti-Muslim project that sparked a wave of mob violence across the Middle East and may have created the cover for a deadly attack on US diplomats in Libya, now appear to be in the hands of Los Angeles County officials. And they are not talking.

A US law enforcement official told the Associated Press Thursday that authorities believe that a 55-year-old Coptic Christian, a US citizen named Nakoula Basseley Nakoula, is behind the film. A convicted felon, Mr. Nakoula has changed his version of events numerous times in interviews with various news outlets.
On Thursday, after being contacted by both the FBI and the US State Department and on its legal counsel’s advice, the office of the CEO of L.A. County removed from public availability what has been confirmed as the permit issued to shoot at least part of the anti-Muslim film. Permits are normally available online and by request from the county.
And:
Paul Audley, president of FilmL.A., the nonprofit group charged with issuing film permits for L.A. County, confirms that a permit was issued to Media for Christ, a conservative nonprofit based in Duarte, Calif., east of Pasadena, to shoot what eventually became “Innocence for Muslims.”

The permit was pulled for a project titled “Desert Warriors,” he says, but is quick to add, “We do not get involved with the content of a movie because that would get into issues of free speech.”

It was a single day permit – for Aug. 18, 2011 – and is filed with Los Angeles County under permit number F00043012.

Here's a weird thought:  What if  the "Libyan protest"/attack wasn't scheduled to coincide with the release of this "film," rather, the film was released(made known) to coincide with the scheduled attack?  Wouldn't that be a kick in the pants?  A logistical stretch, maybe..  But then again, maybe not!

Also:  All that filming in just one day?  Wow!  What an efficient production team!  This doesn't smell at all!  Thanks, Internets!

New Doozies From Clif High

Included this week:  A free to download podcast about this week's baited Mid-East outrage(If you think this situation smells funny, you aren't alone..) along with a brief synopsis of different types of manipulation.

The other nugget is an You Tube broadcast from an Italian translator who no longer works with The Vatican translating The Old Testament.

Cryptically generic enough?  Listen for yourself.

It might be a light posting night, as I feel compelled to take another look at not only Clif's work, but some information regarding the Dogon.  We'll see.

Another Day, Another Jupiter Impact.

Two in a row.  Unusual.  Space Weather, via The Extinction Protocol:

September 13, 2012 – SPACE - Around the world, amateur astronomers have been scanning the cloudtops of Jupiter for signs of debris from an explosion witnessed by Dan Peterson and George Hall on Sept. 10th. So far the cloud layer is blank. “Several observers have now obtained excellent images on the second and third rotations after the fireball, and there is nothing new nor distinctive at the impact site,” reports John H. Rogers, director of the Jupiter Section of the British Astronomical Association: The fireball was probably caused by a small asteroid or comet hitting Jupiter. Apparently, the giant planet swallowed the impactor whole. When fragments of Comet Shoemaker-Levy 9 hit Jupiter in 1994, each major flash observed by NASA’s Galileo spacecraft produced a “bruise,” a murky mixture of incinerated comet dust and chemically altered Jovian gas twisting and swirling among the clouds. In July 2009, amateur astronomer Anthony Wesley discovered a similar mark thought to be debris from a rogue asteroid crashing into the planet. So where is the debris this time? Perhaps the impactor was small, packing just enough punch to make a flash, but without leaving much debris. Indeed, studies suggest that Jupiter is frequently struck by relatively small 10-meter-class asteroids. In such cases, minimal debris is to be expected. –Space Weather

Another visible big impact event, even if it was caused by a small asteroid.  If I were a bettin' man, I'd wager this is just the first indications of some pretty major changes, not only throughout the solar system, but here on earth.  Fore shocks.  Not that all the changes will be bad;  But all said, these changes, when they manifest, will be very dramatic to behold, and to comprehend.  Are you ready, or not?  Either way; They're coming..

Giant ‘balloon of magma’ inflates under Santorini Volcano near Greece

The cause of the recent accelerated expansion of the magma, not its size, was not addressed, and therefore, remains unknown.  The Truth Behind The Scenes:

Molten rock is pooling beneath Greece’s Santorini volcano, the site of one of the largest eruptions in the past 10,000 years.

The island in the southern Agean Sea, about 200 km (120 mi) southeast from Greece’s mainland, is the site of one of the largest volcanic eruptions in the past 10,000 years.

The Minoan eruption (sometimes called the Thera eruption), which occurred some 3600 years ago at the height of the Minoan civilization. The eruption left a large caldera surrounded by volcanic ash deposits hundreds of metres deep and may have led indirectly to the collapse of the Minoan civilization on the island of Crete, 110 km (68 mi) to the south, through a gigantic tsunami. Another popular theory holds that the Thera eruption is the source of the legend of Atlantis.

A new survey suggests that the chamber of molten rock beneath Santorini’s volcano expanded 10-20 million cubic metres — up to 15 times the size of London’s Olympic Stadium — between January 2011 and April 2012. The growth of this ‘balloon’ of magma has seen the surface of the island rise 8-14 centimetres during this period, a team led by Oxford University scientists has found.

The results come from an expedition, funded by the UK’s Natural Environment Research Council, which used satellite radar images and Global Positioning System receivers (GPS) that can detect movements of the Earth’s surface of just a few millimetres.

In January 2011, a series of small earthquakes began beneath the islands of Santorini. Most were so small they could only be detected with sensitive seismometers but it was the first sign of activity beneath the volcano to be detected for 25 years.

However, it still does not provide an answer to the biggest question of all: ‘when will the volcano next erupt?’

And that's a pretty good question to be asking, considering the power of the last Minoan eruption..

7.6 Costa Rican earthquake did not relieve fault pressure: expect another one equal or greater, scientists warn

Not great news for Costa Ricans:  Another one of equal or greater magnitude is predicted to occur.  Tico Times, via The Extinction Protocol.

September 12, 2012 – COSTA RICA - After a series of analyses conducted in the northwestern province of Guanacaste, experts from the Volcanological and Seismological Observatory of Costa Rica (Ovsicori) reported Tuesday that another quake of equal or greater magnitude could occur in Nicoya Peninsula, but predicting when it would happen is “impossible.” Marino Protti, Ovsicori’s lead scientist, explained that the magintude-7.6 earthquake on Sept. 5 caused a 40 percent slip and an inclination of 1.8 meters on the fault located in Nicoya. He also said that although the quake was the “big one” experts had been expecting for Guanacaste, the fault ruptured by only 50 percent, meaning that the possibility that another earthquake of equal or greater magnitude in the area still remains. Ovsicori’s report, released Tuesday, also stated that the earthquake triggered the activation of three faults in Aguas Zarcas (in the northern region), the Guanacaste Volcanic Area and Irazú Volcano (north of Cartago). Seismologists will continue monitoring the areas. By Tuesday morning, the total count of aftershocks from the recent earthquake was 1,650. On Sept. 5 at 8:42 a.m., the 7.6-magnitude earthquake shook the country and was felt as far away as Nicaraguan and Panama. Its epicenter was located 20 kilometers northwest of Sámara in the Nicoya Península. –Tico Times

Something Just Hit Jupiter. Something Big.

Fresh Jupiter impact may aid solar system census.  New Scientist.

A bright flash spotted early yesterday in Jupiter's swirling atmosphere was most likely due to a hit by a comet or asteroid, astronomers say. Although the impact is the fourth one seen in just over three years, the uptick does not mean Jupiter is getting hit more often, only that more people are looking.

"Jupiter has been taking hits like this for a long time," says Franck Marchis of the SETI Institute in Mountain View, California. "It's just that now, amateur astronomers have the capabilities to detect them."

With the speed of digital communication, the army of enthusiasts scanning the skies can connect with professional astronomers to follow up on an observation almost instantly.

Seeing real-time impacts and studying the scars left on Jupiter will give scientists unique windows into the gas giant's atmospheric properties. The events can also tell astronomers more about the impacting objects themselves, giving a better picture of the sizes and numbers of bodies swarming through the solar system.

"This is a remarkable tool for us professional astronomers," Marchis says. "We cannot observe Jupiter continuously. But now when something like this happens, we can see it."

And:

The recent spate of impacts highlights Jupiter's role as cosmic street sweeper, clearing up debris that might otherwise hit Earth, says Glenn Orton of NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, California.

"Jupiter is a big gravitational vacuum cleaner," says Orton. "We qualitatively know that Jupiter's protecting the Earth. Without Jupiter we'd have a lot more impacts."

Thanks again, Jupiter, for being the Inner Solar System's goaltender.  Judging by the size of that explosion, not only do we appreciate you, our very survival might depend on your very being.  When you factor Jupiter's size to Earth, the big boom might have covered a significant majority of our planet.  See for yourself:

Reporter: Bush ‘negligence’ ignored pre-9/11 warnings

Uh..  Duh.  Raw Story.  Excerpts:

Reporter Kurt Eichenwald, author of a key book exploring the terror war, castigates the Bush administration in a New York Times editorial published Sept. 11, 2012 for covering up months of “negligence” that led to the terrorist attacks on New York City and Washington D.C. 11 years ago.

Eichenwald claims that classified daily intelligence briefings delivered to President George W. Bush in the months preceding the attacks, only one of which has been made public, paint a picture of an administration already fixated on Iraq and determined that the Central Intelligence Agency’s (CIA) warnings about al Qaeda were off the mark.

“While those documents are still not public, I have read excerpts from many of them, along with other recently declassified records, and come to an inescapable conclusion: the administration’s reaction to what Mr. Bush was told in the weeks before that infamous briefing reflected significantly more negligence than has been disclosed,” he explained.

The one daily briefing that was made public (PDF), delivered August 6, 2001, was already damning enough thanks to its headline: “Bin Laden Determined to Strike in U.S.” That document wasn’t released until 2004, and then only under pressure from the 9/11 Commission, the formation of which the Bush administration initially resisted, favoring an investigation by Congress instead.

But even as shocking as that August 6 document may be, “for all of the controversy it provoked, is not nearly as shocking as the briefs that came before it,” Eichenwald wrote.

“Operatives connected to Bin Laden, one reported on June 29, expected the planned near-term attacks to have ‘dramatic consequences,’ including major casualties,” he explained. “On July 1, the brief stated that the operation had been delayed, but ‘will occur soon.’ Some of the briefs again reminded Mr. Bush that the attack timing was flexible, and that, despite any perceived delay, the planned assault was on track.”

He elaborated on that point speaking to CBS “This Morning” on Tuesday, saying: “The worst of them, the neoconservatives at the Pentagon, as the CIA was coming in and saying al Qaeda is going to attack, said, ‘Oh, this is just a false flag operation. Bin Laden’s just trying to take our eye off of the real threat, Iraq.’ And so there are presidential daily briefs that are literally saying, ‘No, they’re wrong. This isn’t fake. It’s real.’”

Eichenwald added: “In the aftermath, the White House and others said, ‘Well, they didn’t tell us enough. No. They told them everything they needed to know to go on a full alert, and the White House didn’t do it.”

So much for personal responsibility, right?  I'm sure this is a hoax, though, as people like Attorney General Ashcroft would probably stop flying commercial airlines if he thought the threat was real enough, wouldn't he?  And we all know that didn't happen..  Wait; What?

High Weirdness And International Intrigue: Thanks, China!

Uh, Has Anyone Seen China’s Next Leader?  Gawker has the short version:

Nobody would bat an eye if U.S. Vice President Joe Biden went missing for more than a week. We'd all assume he was on an epic ayahuasca trip and he'd be back when he got it out of his system. But when Chinese Vice President Xi Jinping goes missing, people freak out. He's presumed to be the next leader of China, slated to take over as chief of the Communist Party in just a few weeks. But he hasn't been seen in public or heard from since September 1st. *ominous music*

Speculation has grown this week as the 59-year-old Jinping mysteriously missed a series of high-profile meetings with foreign officials, including Hillary Clinton and the prime minister of Denmark. You do not stand up the prime minister of Denmark unless something has gone terribly wrong, right?

Chinese officials say nothing's amiss but refuse to give even a hint of Jinping's whereabouts. (The Chinese foreign ministry spokesman dismissed foreign journalists' queries about whether Jinping was alive with the answer, "I hope you will raise serious questions.")

Inevitably, rumors on Chinese microblogs and in the foreign media have swirled. Including:

Jinping is recuperating from a minor heart attack.

Jinping is recuperating after pulling a muscle in his back while swimming or playing soccer.

Jinping was critically injured in a staged car accident when political enemies tried to assassinate him.

As you can see, explanations range from the banal to the shit-your-pants-in-fear. So if anyone sees Jinping, please tell him millions of Chinese citizens and a good portion of the international community are looking for him.

I'm sure he'll show up soon.  His clone should be almost ready for harvest, and has probably already developed the ability to speak!

Baltic X is back, baby!  After a botched attempt in July(Short answer:  Bad weather/Equipment malfunctions), the Ocean X team is currently on-site (As of Sept. 7 or 8), and hopes to have a much more comprehensive expedition this time around.  Truthfall.  Excerpts(With Sonar images and "artist interpretation" goodness at the link):

Veteran Swedish treasure hunters, the Ocean Explorer Team will at last embark on a long anticipated return trip to the massive and mysterious object lying some 85 metres under the Baltic Sea – known simply as the “Baltic Anomaly”.

New Multi-Beam Sonar Images Released Contradict Mainstream “Explanations”

Voyage Begins Next Saturday 8th September and Will Last 8-9 days
Team Will Look At Other Shipwrecks Also To Finance This Project
Excitement As Team Will Investigate Second Anomaly For The First Time
New Expedition Should Provide More Answers To Object’s Origin
New Images Show 2-3 Metre Long Square With Perfectly Round Hole Inside
Depressions With Perfectly Straight Edges Many Metres Long

The team, led by OceanX founders Dennis Aasberg and Peter Lindberg will leave Norrtälje harbour, Sweden on the 8th September after a second trip in July ended in disappointment due to multiple equipment failures. Despite this previous setback, the team are determined to get answers and when you see the latest sonar images you will understand why.
Out of place

This unnatural looking mushroom shaped structure protrudes vertically upwards out of the normally featureless seabed by an incredible 12 metres (40 feet) with the dome on top spanning an impressive 60 metres (180 feet) – equivalent to the wingspan of a commercial airliner. This is no small find!

Not only is the massive scale of the object utterly impressive, but the other thing that hits you between the eyes is also how ridiculously out of place it seems. The Baltic Sea is what’s known as a “dead-zone” with massive expanses of flat and featureless seabed. Yet in the middle of it all we find a 12 metre high champagne cork shaped object literally – “sticking up like a sore thumb”. Then there is the tantalizing prospect of the as yet uninvestigated second and third anomalies lying close by and begging closer inspection.

When news first broke of the finding back in June 2011, a sensationalist world media jumped on the images comparing the sidescan sonar images to Han Solo’s Millennium Falcon. In truth, there was a very real visual similarity when the top-down views were compared but not much in the way of substance beyond that. The OceanX team, like the rest of us, were eager to solve the mystery and so here we are on the verge of another return trip and another voyage into the unknown, or perhaps a voyage into our own distant human origins.   I still believe in you , Baltic Anomaly.  Nessie, Bigfoot, and I will be awaiting your findings with bated breath!  And by "findings," I mean PICTURES PICTURES PICTURES!

Top 10 Foods That Contain High Fructose Corn Syrup

This poison tastes GREAT!  The Top 10 offenders from Huffington Post, via Activist Post:

It’s super cheap—cheaper than sugar—and that means processed food manufacturers can load up on it, sweetening their goodies at rock-bottom prices and further driving our waistlines out. It’s high fructose corn syrup (HFCS) and it’s found in some pretty surprising places. In fact, the foods with high fructose corn syrup may be foods you eat every single day.
While this Huffington Post article on the hidden presence of HFCS says “the jury is still out” on whether it’s dangerous or any more dangerous than sugar, we know differently. This cheap sweetener has been linked to obesity, learning ability and memory, and high blood pressure, to name a few health issues. As if that isn’t enough, it has also been shown to contain toxic mercury.
So, while some would have you believe HFCS is no more dangerous than white sugar (as if that isn’t bad enough), we know differently. .. Foods with High Fructose Corn SyrupHere are some foods with high fructose corn syrup that you may have never expected to contain the ingredients – foods you may be eating every day.   1. Yogurts

2. Breads

3. Frozen pizzas

4. Cereal bars

5. Cocktail peanuts

6. Boxed macaroni and cheese

7.Salad Dressing

8. Tonic

9. Applesauce

10. Canned Fruit   Although there are 10 foods here, we bet you can find many more. It costs companies more to sweeten their foods with sugar, and even more with honey. So, because they are interested in nothing more than the bottom line – money, they often choose HFCS. It’s in ketchups, soups, cereals, pasta sauces, and more. This is just another reason to steer clear of highly processed foods. Americans consume a whopping 35 pounds of HFCS each year, showing just how prevalent foods with high fructose corn syrup are.

Stick with the natural stuff. If it comes in a box, bag, or can, be extra suspicious, or even better—just stay away.   It's so hard to do right by your body when this shit's in everything.  Everything.

The Onion/A.V. Club Review of Ariel Pinks's Haunted Graffiti-Mature Themes

Ariel Pink has been putting out album after album of brilliantly strange pop scraps for a decade now, attracting a cult fandom convinced of his prodigious songwriting talent while being dismissed by others as an oddball novelty act. The cohesion and relative accessibility of 2010’s Before Today suggested Pink’s supporters have had it right all along, but Mature Themes’ sprawling hodgepodge of stylistic mutations removes all doubt. The album is bursting with ideas, toeing a titillating line between anything-goes whimsy and a deconstructionist free-for-all.

A dab of production polish keeps it all together: Pink’s earlier work wore its mangled manufacture like a badge of honor, but here, a little studio gloss buffs over the distracting imperfections and better highlights his well-crafted melodies. Any strides Pink makes toward convention, however, are limited by his lyrics, which continue to wallow in the juvenile and absurd. (Wacky, organ-driven opener “Kinski Assassin” asks, “Who sank my battleship?” before referencing “testicle bombs” and “blowjobs of death,” and wistfully murmuring, “I will always have Paris.”) From there, listeners who can take such verbal Dada are in for a jarring 50-minute romp through genres and images. But it’s not all buffoonery. “Mature Themes,” a reverently executed take on AM soft rock, charms with a sweet and simple chorus (“I want it to be good”), while closing track “Baby” (with R&B experimentalist Dam-Funk) faithfully covers an obscure, airy soul gem by Donnie and Joe Emerson.
Drifting, dreamy songs like these are Mature Themes’ high points. Though there’s plenty of the damaged pop psychedelics that’s made up so much of Pink’s previous albums, it’s the lighter material where the group sounds most synergized and inventive, particularly on the breezy, new-age “Live It Up.” A subtle blend of glittery synths, bubbling guitar, and windswept vocal harmonies, the track is one of the band’s more nuanced collaborative efforts. With such impressive versatility and broad musical perspective, Mature Themes is Pink’s best album to date, and sets an invigorating, expansive tone for his work to come.   Be warned, though:  This is not an album you listen to once, at average volume, while driving or partying, or otherwise fully engaged.  The review is correct:  The lighter songs do work better.  I've been listening repeatedly the last almost three weeks, and some songs are just now starting to open up/unlock.  What's beautiful is his(Ultimately, this is Ariel's gig) use of some amazing snippets of music, those brief moments of perfection reminiscent of the brief moments of perfection that pepper his what-must-be-insane record collection.  Love him or not, you cannot deny creative width and depth.  This one takes awhile, but when you get it, you'll love it.   I like him, which is to say I find "Before Today" and "Mature Themes" both compelling and compulsive listening.  Short review:  "Mature Themes" kicks ass..  But be patient;  Listen repeatedly.
