Parts of Mars Interior as Wet as Earth's

That's a nice-sized puzzle piece, right?  Space dot com.  Excerpts, plus kickass stop motion video at link:
The interior of Mars holds vast reservoirs of water, with some spots apparently as wet as Earth's innards, scientists say.

The finding upends previous studies, which had estimated that the Red Planet's internal water stores were scanty at best — something of a surprise, given that liquid water apparently flowed on the Martian surface long ago.

"It’s been puzzling why previous estimates for the planet’s interior have been so dry," co-author Erik Hauri, of the Carnegie Institution of Washington, said in a statement. "This new research makes sense and suggests that volcanoes may have been the primary vehicle for getting water to the surface."

The scientists examined two Martian meteorites that formed in the planet's mantle, the layer under the crust. These rocks landed on Earth about 2.5 million years ago, after being blasted off the Red Planet by a violent impact.

Using a technique called secondary ion mass spectrometry, the team determined that the mantle from which the meteorites derived contained between 70 and 300 parts per million (ppm) of water. Earth's mantle, for comparison, holds roughly 50-300 ppm water, researchers said.

"The results suggest that water was incorporated during the formation of Mars and that the planet was able to store water in its interior during the planet’s differentiation," Hauri said.

Some of this water apparently made its made to the surface in the ancient past. NASA's Spirit and Opportunity rovers, which landed on the Red Planet in 2004, have found plenty of evidence that Mars was far warmer and wetter billions of years ago than it is today.

The two golf-cart-size robots have even spotted signs of ancient hydrothermal systems, suggesting that some places on the Red Planet once had both water and an energy source — two key ingredients for the existence of life as we know it.

The video looks exactly like coastlines and water. See for yourself. Amazing. Mother Mars yields a few more of her secrets, and the Big Picture becomes a little bit clearer.

Sun Pyramid UFO - NASA Removed, Sun SOHO Picture Browser Webpage

Wow.  Were this a random or inconsequential event, no one would bother.

Is this part of a much larger event?  If so:  What's next?

Which came first:  The Triangle, or its Perfection?

2012's off to a fast start, yeah?  Hold on, now..  We're just warming up.

The Tension Is As Palpable As The Humidity..

This is some serious/intense bullshit.  Branson remains, so far, "unscathed," but these tornadic systems are CHARGED with electricity, the likes of which I've never experienced.  And they are relentless.  Denning, Arkansas was hit by mile-wide tornado earlier this evening.  It's probably gone.

I can't imagine having to deal with damage caused by these storms.  It's like a gigantic circular saw blade boring into the earth.  The destruction is so..  Thorough..  So complete.  I can't imagine what these people are feeling right now.

If you live in the four state region, the implications of this particular recurring, savage system have now become very, very real..  There is no real safe place, and suddenly, life holds no guarantees.  Also, the horror of another Joplin-style catastrophe becomes more mockingly random, as total destruction can now come clothed as a rain wrapped tornado within a storm system that's really not all that impressive.  Not that that couldn't have happened before, but it never did.  Now it has.

This is not normal weather, and these are not normal times.  Everything is changing, or is about to change..

This is but one manifestation of that change..

Match made in heaven: Earth finds new companion as giant asteroid joins its path around the sun

From The Daily Mail.  Excerpts:

Earth has found a new companion that has joined its orbit around the sun, scientists have revealed.

It may not have the most romantic of names, but Asteroid 2010 SO16 could pursue Earth for anywhere between the next 120,000 to a million years.

And at a few hundred metres across, it is the largest space rock ever discovered so close to earth.

Powerful Space Explosion May Herald Star's Death By Black Hole

A huge, powerful star explosion detonated in deep space last week — an ultra-bright conflagration that has astronomers scratching their heads over exactly how it happened.

The explosion may be the death cry of a star as it was ripped apart by a black hole, scientists said. High-energy radiation continues to brighten and fade from the March 28 blast's location, about 3.8 billion light-years from Earth in the constellation Draco.

Astronomers say they've never witnessed an explosion so bright, long-lasting and variable before, according to NASA officials.

The explosion looks like a gamma-ray burst — the most powerful type of explosion in the universe, which usually mark the destruction of a massive star — but the flaring emissions from these dramatic events never last more than a few hours, researchers said.

"We know of objects in our own galaxy that can produce repeated bursts, but they are thousands to millions of times less powerful than the bursts we are seeing now," said Andrew Fruchter, of the Space Telescope Science Institute in Baltimore, in a statement today (April 7). "This is truly extraordinary."
And:
"The fact that the explosion occurred in the center of a galaxy tells us it is most likely associated with a massive black hole," said Neil Gehrels, the lead scientist for Swift at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center, in a statement. "This solves a key question about the mysterious event."
Also:
Astronomers have detected stars disrupted by supermassive black holes before, but none have shown the X-ray brightness and variability seen in GRB 110328A, which has flared repeatedly. Since April 3, for example, it has brightened by more than five times.

A "New" Planet Hiding Under Our Galactic Nose?

Tyche, Giant Hidden Planet, May Exist In Our Solar System From the Independent. Excerpts:

If you grew up thinking there were nine planets and were shocked when Pluto was demoted five years ago, get ready for another surprise. There may be nine after all, and Jupiter may not be the largest.
The hunt is on for a gas giant up to four times the mass of Jupiter thought to be lurking in the outer Oort Cloud, the most remote region of the solar system.
The orbit of Tyche (pronounced ty-kee), would be 15,000 times farther from the Sun than the Earth's, and 375 times farther than Pluto's, which is why it hasn't been seen so far.
But scientists now believe the proof of its existence has already been gathered by a Nasa space telescope, Wise, and is just waiting to be analysed.

Our knowledge of not only deep space, but our "galactic neighborhood" continues to grow at an astounding rate.

A Rather Unexpected M-Class Flare Just Popped Off..

From Solar Cycle 24 Excerpts:

02/09/2011 by Kevin VE3EN at 02:30Comment on Message Board
Solar Update -
Solar activity has increased within the past 24 hours with C-Class flares and an M1.9 Solar Flare around growing Sunspot 1153.
Unfortunately this region has picked the wrong time to get active. It will soon rotate onto the western limb and out of direct earth view. (This is unclear, as it would be good news if this active region rotated away from us, so I'm guessing "out of" should be "into." I'm also assuming the M-Class flare didn't effect us, as no mention was made to that effect.)

Several new sunspot groups have formed on the visible solar disk and were numbered 1154, 1155, 1156 and 1157. These regions are not yet capable of producing strong solar flares, but that could change.

These sunspot seem to have caught everyone off guard. It's development was sudden, and very quickly, an M-Class flare was produced. There are four active regions that are in the early stages of development, and rotating toward us(If I'm interpreting correctly..), so we could get some interesting solar activity activity coming up..

Curious As To How Birds Might Behave In A 2012/ Armageddon Situation? Well Wonder No More!

Something's got these birds Freaked Out.. Notice the hysteria and confusion among the birds, but no aggression within the flock towards each other. This isn't some kind of avian war, it's an event, however small the duration. I can't remember ever seeing birds behave in this manner. It'll be interesting to determine if this was isolated, or part of a cluster of similar events.
Possible causes:
Mass poisoning.
Unusual ambient/environmental noise.
Electrical/radio frequency disturbances.
Magnetic/Solar frequency disturbances.
Low frequency earth/crustal disturbances.
Antichrist lives in Melbourne apartment complex.

Other.

Disturbing.

Polar Night Ends Early: File Under; What The What?

Original thread from Godlike. Original translation from article at Rsoe. Ominous. Any bets? 2012? Planet X? Global Warming? The arrival of the Antichrist? Excerpts:

Beyond the Arctic Circle, can find the time needed for day and night
depending on latitude up to half a year,
the sunrise
something very special
-
even more so when the always
joyfully anticipated event is just around two days early is taking
place
.
.

According to the KNR Radio Greenland, the sun was in West Greenland Ilulissat on Tuesday (11.1.) at exactly 12:56:57 Clock. Normally the sun goes there until 13 January for the first time after the polar night again. Inhabitants of the third-largest city with 4,500 inhabitants of Greenland, made because of the early sun appeared worried.

"Here in the place the sun comes up until 13 January. There will not be the right one or the other," quoted the Greenlandic radio KNR Holger Sivertsen, a 74-year-old local, in a report on his website.

We will have some follow up on what this was, as the early end to Polar Night is not normal. This, coupled with the weird astrological news, continuing animal mass deaths, and even the Tampa airport, leads me to believe there is a genuine threat from above. There are varying hypothesis of what is happening, but I think this one sounds close..

Happy first two weeks of 2011!

Jupiter's Missing Cloud Stripe Bounces Back Big Time

From Space dot com..

The dark brown stripe of clouds on Jupiter that disappeared from view last year is reappearing.

Astronomers confirmed Wednesday (Nov. 24) that the gas giant's South Equatorial Belt (SEB), one of two distinctive dark stripes formed by the planet's cloud chemistry and winds, is coming back. They attributed the return of the view to a shift in Jupiter's cloud cover.

Cassini reveals oxygen atmosphere of Saturn's moon Rhea

From e! Science News Excerpts:

A tenuous atmosphere infused with oxygen and carbon-dioxide has been discovered at Saturn's moon Rhea by the Cassini-Huygens mission, the first time a spacecraft has captured direct evidence of an oxygen atmosphere at a world other than Earth. The NASA-led international mission made the discovery using combined data from Cassini's instruments, which includes a sensor designed and built at UCL's (University College London) Mullard Space Science Laboratory.

Published today in Science Express, results from the mission reveal that the atmosphere of Rhea, Saturn's second largest moon at 1500 km wide, is extremely thin and is sustained by high energy particles bombarding its icy surface and kicking up atoms, molecules and ions into the atmosphere.

The density of oxygen is probably about 5 trillion times less dense than in Earth's atmosphere. However, the formation of oxygen and carbon dioxide could possibly drive complex chemistry on the surfaces of many icy bodies in the universe.

"The new results suggest that active, complex chemistry involving oxygen may be quite common throughout the solar system and even our universe," said Dr Ben Teolis, a Cassini team scientist based at Southwest Research Institute in San Antonio and lead author. "Such chemistry could be a pre-requisite for life. All evidence from Cassini indicates Rhea is too cold and devoid of the liquid water necessary for life as we know it."

All evidence.. For now..

Ancient Mars: "The Water Planet"

From The Daily Galaxy. Excerpts:

"We can now say that the planet was altered on a global scale by liquid water about four billion years ago." - John Carter of the University of Paris

Minerals in northern Mars craters observed by two NASA orbiters suggest that a phase in Mars' early history with conditions favorable to life occurred globally, not just in the south.
..
In recent years, the European Space Agency's Mars Express orbiter and NASA's Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter have found clay minerals that are signatures of a wet environment at thousands of sites in the southern highlands of Mars, where rocks on or near the surface are about four billion years old. Until this week, no sites with those minerals had been reported in the northern lowlands, where younger volcanic activity has buried the older surface more deeply
And:
CRISM Principal Investigator Scott Murchie of Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory, said that the findings aid interpretation of when the wet environments on ancient Mars existed relative to some other important steps in the planet's early history.

The prevailing theory for how the northern part of the planet came to have a much lower elevation than the southern highlands is that a giant object slammed obliquely into northern Mars, turning nearly half of the planet's surface into the solar system's largest impact crater. The new findings suggest that the formation of water-related minerals, and thus at least part of the wet period that may have been most favorable to life, occurred between that early giant impact and the later time when younger sediments formed an overlying mantle.

With each new discovery, with every advancement in knowledge, those outlandish theories about Mars don't sound as far fetched as they once did..
