I Don't Know You Very Well, But Chromatics, I Think I Love You..

Chromatics-Kill for Love From Pitchfork.  Excerpts:

Chromatics formed in the Pacific Northwest as a rickety no-wave band more than a decade ago, but re-emerged in the mid-2000s with a revamped lineup and a new sound that nicely coincided with a resurgence of interest in the slow, dreamy, not-always-Italian dance-pop subgenre known as Italo disco. As with other acts on New Jersey-based Italians Do It Better, a label co-founded by group mastermind Johnny Jewel, Chromatics didn't just incorporate the vocoders and vintage synth arpeggios of the turn-of-the-1980s originals, they added the brittle guitars, dubby reverb, and urban dread of post-punk.

And:

If Kill for Love had been a 10-track LP, with its most immediately striking songs each edited down to around 3 minutes, it would've still been impressive. In fact, as recently as an interview posted last month by Self-Titled, Jewel hadn't yet made up his mind about whether to put out one or two discs. Ultimately, he made the right choice. Closer "No Escape" may not be as immediate as the title track when heard in isolation, but luckily, we don't have to listen to it in isolation. Just as on albums by the War on Drugs, Deerhunter, and countless others, the experimental interludes here help create a context that makes the pop songs that much more effective; by including so many mood-oriented parts, Kill for Love paradoxically rises above hazy synth-pop's occupational hazard of dissolving into a blur of mood and mood alone. It's not just a collection of hits; it's an album, one that gives the project's familiar nocturnal foreboding a new sense of grandeur.

Enough gabbin'.  Let's let the music speak for itself..  Videos taken from both Night Drive and Kill for Love..

The last song is from the soundtrack of "Drive," which now becomes a high-priority viewing, not only for Gosling, but for my new favorites, The Chromatics.  Enjoy..

A Mole? At Fox News? You Don't Say!

Announcing Our Newest Hire: A Current Fox News Channel Employee  From Gawker.  And they're pretty happy about this turn of events, although the pilot dispatch is not too exciting.  Excerpts:

I always intended to keep my mouth shut. The plan was simple: get hired, keep my head down and my views to myself, work for a few months, build my resume, then eventually hop to a new job that didn't make me cringe every morning when I looked in the mirror.

That was years ago. My cringe muscles have turned into crow's feet. The ten resumes a month I was sending out dwindled into five, then two, then one, then zero. No one wants me. I'm blacklisted.

I work at Fox News Channel.

First up?  The Network's gross Fox Nation..

If you're not a frequenter of Fox Nation (and if you're reading Gawker, it's a pretty safe bet you're not) I can describe it for you — it's like an unholy mashup of the Drudge Report, the Huffington Post and a Klan meeting. Word around the office is that the site was actually the brainchild of Bill O'Reilly's chief stalker (and Gawker pal) Jesse Watters.

The Nation aggregates news stories, gives them provocative headlines, and invites commenters to weigh in. The comments are fascinating actually, if you can detach yourself enough to view them as sort of the id of the conservative movement. Of course, if you can't detach yourself, then you're going to come away with a diminished view of human decency, because HOLY MOLY THESE PEOPLE DO NOT LIKE THE BLACK PRESIDENT. I'm not saying they dislike him BECAUSE he's black, but a lot of the comments, unprompted, mention the fact that he is black, so what would you say, Dr. Freud?
The Fox Nation moderators, realizing that they had a problem on their hands, did the absolute bare minimum, hiring one or two college kids to comb the comments for the most egregiously racist postings, and putting in automatic text filters that blocked various key words. Of course the intrepid commenters quickly found ways around these filters using letter substitutions and spacings, which is why many comments complain about our "n@gger president" and the "M u s l i m in the White House."

So the site has become the seedy underbelly of the Fox News online empire. It's surprising that we even have an online empire, considering that our fan base is mostly septuagenarian technophobes.

This could be fun!  Maybe this will be a daily feature?  Thanks, Gawker!

Iran Halts Oil Sales To Greece? That's Sure To Stabilize Things!

Iran Halts Greek Oil Shipments After Bills Left Unpaid – UPDATE [REPORT]  G Captain.  Excerpts:

Iran stopped shipping oil to Greece and may halt supplies to Royal Dutch Shell PLC (RDSB.LN, RDSA, RDSB) over unpaid bills, Iran media said Friday, as the impact of sanctions widens. The news suggests a decline in Iranian oil exports last month may accelerate as banking sanctions add to an upcoming European ban on Tehran oil. That could lead to upward pressure on oil prices, which have recently surged to a four-year high.

The Mehr news agency said that, due to unpaid bills, Iran stopped deliveries to Greek refiners Hellenic Petroleum (ELPE.AT) and Motor Oil (MOH.AT). Greece has long been the European Union country relying the most on Iranian oil–sometimes for as much as a third of its supplies.
And:
Iran halts oil sales to two major Greek firms Tehran Times.  Excerpts:

The Islamic Republic of Iran has terminated oil sales to two major Greek firms over their failure to pay for their crude purchases from Tehran, Press TV reports.

Iran’s decision to bar Hellenic Petroleum and Motor Oil Hellas from purchasing Iranian crude came after they defaulted on their purchases from Tehran.

The interruption of oil flow from Iran is expected to further deepen the financial crisis in Greece.

Oil prices have shot up in recent months in the wake of Iran’s decision to halt its crude exports to certain European countries in response to the European Union (EU) oil embargo on Tehran.

Iran has already cut oil exports to France and Britain in retaliation for the Western-led sanctions imposed on its oil industry.

Interesting.  The EU/West imposes sanctions on Iran, hurting(?) it's economy.  Iran refuses sales of oil to the weakest of EU members(Remember--If one goes, that starts the dominoes!), kickstarting Greece's economic death-spiral.  And the whole world takes a few more steps to financial meltdown and all-out war.  Neat, huh?

And the geo-political Circle of Life is complete.  Until the next crisis manifests, drawing close The Inevitable, that is..

Worst Game of "Well; Actually.." Ever.

Ministry of the Environment: "Tsunami Debris May Have Already Reached North America, Back in February..."  EX-SKF.  Excerpts:

Oops. Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution just recently released a paper saying the debris may reach North America in 1 to 2 years (see Huffington Post, 4/3/2012).  Well, actually..
From Jiji Tsushin (4/6/2012):
Ministry of the Environment's Forecast of disaster debris in the ocean: it may have already reached North America
The Ministry of the Environment announced its forecast of the movement of the disaster debris in the [Pacific] ocean after the March 11, 2011 tsunami. According to the forecast, part of the debris floating on the surface of the ocean that is more easily affected by winds may have traveled across the Pacific Ocean and reached the west coast of Canada in February this year.

The Ministry's forecast of 1.33 million tonnes of debris from houses that got swept away, which consists the majority of the debris, shows about 3% of this type of debris, or about 41,300 tonnes, may reach within 10 kilometers off the west coast of North America by February 2013.

I can't find a press release on the subject at the Ministry's website. If the Ministry is to be believed, the first debris took only 11 months, instead of 1 to 2 years (I remember they were counting on two years).

Yeah, so what?  The reactors are all right; Right?  That's what counts!  Well, actually..

Ambassador Murata writes to UN Secretary General: “It is no exaggeration to say that the fate of Japan and the whole world depends on No. 4 reactor” — Appeals for independent assessment team  One word?  Dire.  Two words:  We're fucked.  Three words?  That's all, folks!  Enenews.  Excerpts:

It seems to us that the Nuclear Security Summit was focused on the North Korea nuclear issue and on the issue of common security from a terrorist attack. Our appeal on the need for the independent assessment at Reactor 4 was regarded as less urgent. We predicted this outcome in light of the nature of the Summit. I suppose most participants fully understood the potential disaster which will affect their countries. Nevertheless, they decided not to raise the delicate issue, perhaps in order to not ruffle their diplomatic relationship with Japan.

I was moved by Ambassador Murata’s courage in pressing this issue in Japan. I know how difficult it is for a former career diplomat to do this, especially in my country. Current and former government officials might be similarly restricted in the scope of their actions, as Ambassador Murata is, but it is their responsibility to take a stand for the benefit of our descendants for centuries to come—to pass on a world safer than our ancestors passed us.

If Japanese government leaders do not recognize the risk their nation faces, how could the rest of us be persuaded of the looming disaster? And if the rest of us do not acknowledge the catastrophe we collectively face, who will be the one to act?
..
(From Murata's letter..)

I was asked to make a statement at the public hearing of the Budgetary Committee of the House of Councilors on March 23. I raised the crucial problem. of N0.4 reactor of Fukushima containing1535 fuel rods. It could be fatally damaged by continuing aftershocks. Moreover, 50 meters away from it exists a common cooling pool for 6 reactors containing 6375 fuel rods!
It is no exaggeration to say that the fate of Japan and the whole world depends on NO.4 reactor. This is confirmed by most reliable experts like Dr. Arnie Gundersen or Dr. Fumiaki Koide.
Please allow me to inform you of an initiative being taken by a former UN official who is endeavoring to have the Nuclear Security Summit take up the crucial problem. of N0.4 reactor of Fukushima. He is pursuing the establishment of an independent assessment team. I think his efforts are very significant, because it is indispensable to draw the attention of world leaders to this vital issue.

I am cooperating with him, writing to some of my Korean acquaintances that this issue deserves the personal attention of President Lee Myung-bak. I have written today to Prime Minister Yoshihiko Noda. I asked him to consider taking the initiative of mobilizing human wisdom on the widest scope to cope with the Fukushima reactor No.4 problem, fully taking into account the above-mentioned “independent assessment team”.

What about the ocean?   The ocean's not contaminated; Right?  Well, actually..
Study: Radioactive water to reach Hawaii in 2 years  Will 2 years be code for 11 months?  The Asahi Shimbun.  Excerpts:

Water contaminated by radioactivity that entered the sea from the Fukushima No. 1 nuclear plant will reach the Hawaiian Islands in March 2014, according to a computer simulation by the Japan Atomic Energy Agency.

The agency said the radioactivity in the water will be diluted to low levels by the time it has traveled 5,300 kilometers from the Fukushima plant. (They are referring to just cesium, I guess, as no other radioactive substance is mentioned..)
..
The researchers said 18,000 trillion becquerels of radioactive iodine and cesium have leaked from the plant into the sea.

The contaminated water will be carried by ocean currents, and the maximum radioactivity level in cesium-137 will be about 0.04 becquerel per liter when it nears the Hawaiian Islands, they said.

Sweet.  So what kind of levels do you expect for the plutonium, uranium, tritium, and the rest of this nuclear cavalcade of whimsy?  Cesium 137 has a half life of 30 years.  MOX has a half life of 24, 000 years.
No matter, though..  Especially if Reactor 4 goes..

Here we are, at what might be the Last Vestiges of Normal Life, and we all continue on, like everything is normal.

May we continue on, like normal, most still in denial, for at least a little while longer, please.

China builds scores of dams in earthquake hazard zones

Look on the bright side:  At least they're not nuclear plants!  The Extinction Protocol.  Excerpts:

More than 130 large dams built, under construction, or proposed in western China’s seismic hazard zones could trigger disastrous environmental consequences such as earthquakes and giant waves, finds a new report from the Canadian watchdog group Probe International. The report shows that 98.6 percent of the dams being constructed in western China are located in high to moderate seismic hazard zones. The location of large dams near clusters of recorded earthquakes with magnitudes greater than 4.9, and especially when the earthquake focal points are also close to the surface, “is cause for grave concern,” said the report’s author geologist “John Jackson.”
And:
In a worst-case scenario, Jackson reports, dams could collapse, creating a giant wave that would inundate everything in its path, including downstream dams, causing great loss of life and property.

Bright side, China..  Bright side..

Fukushima One Year Later: Reactor 4 Is In Not-Awesome Shape.

Mainichi Expert Sr. Writer: Gov’t sources say No. 4 pool a grave concern — Storage pool barely intact — We have no time to humor senseless thinking of those who downplay the risks  This is happening now:  A continual erosion of the building's integrity.  Mainichi Daily News.  Excerpts:

[...] One of the biggest issues that we face is the possibility that the spent nuclear fuel pool of the No. 4 reactor at the stricken Fukushima No. 1 Nuclear Power Plant will collapse. This is something that experts from both within and outside Japan have pointed out since the massive quake struck. [...] not only independent experts, but also sources within the government say that it’s a grave concern.

(...)The storage pool in the No. 4 reactor building has a total of 1,535 fuel rods, or 460 tons of nuclear fuel, in it. The 7-story building itself has suffered great damage, with the storage pool barely intact on the building’s third and fourth floors. The roof has been blown away. If the storage pool breaks and runs dry, the nuclear fuel inside will overheat and explode, causing a massive amount of radioactive substances to spread over a wide area. Both the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) and French nuclear energy company Areva have warned about this risk.

(...)A report released in February by the Independent Investigation Commission on the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Accident stated that the storage pool of the plant’s No. 4 reactor has clearly been shown to be “the weakest link” in the parallel, chain-reaction crises of the nuclear disaster. The worse-case scenario drawn up by the government includes not only the collapse of the No. 4 reactor pool, but the disintegration of spent fuel rods from all the plant’s other reactors. If this were to happen, residents in the Tokyo metropolitan area would be forced to evacuate.
And:
“Because sea water was being pumped into the reactor, the soundness of the structure (concrete corrosion and deterioration) was questionable. There also were doubts about the calculations made on earthquake resistance as well,” (Emphasis author)said one government source familiar with what took place at the time. “[...] fuel rod removal will take three years. Will the structure remain standing for that long? Burying the reactor in a concrete grave is like building a dam, and therefore expensive. I think that it was because TEPCO’s general shareholders’ meeting was coming up (in June 2011) that the company tried to keep expenses low.” [...]

That's some pretty awesome short-term, Bottom-Line thinking, yeah?  Is killing your customer base a very sound business strategy?  Fukushima is perilously close to becoming an Undisputed Global Event (If Reactor 4's Spent Fuel Pool does indeed go, believe me, You Will Know..), yet won't drop the cash needed to reign in this Catastrophe of Unknown and Unimaginable Magnitude.  So it's a good bet that something horrible will happen, as really, it's already happening..  Already.

Why should you care?  If you're in the Midwestern United States, chew on this:  Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Plant is at 37 Degrees North Latitude.  Kansas City, Missouri is at 39 Degrees North Latitude.  I have said this before, but on the good chance you haven't seen it before:  The United States is, globally, downwind from Fukushima.  And it's not like the earthquakes have stopped, either.  And it's not like there's some freak storm coming in from the Sea of Japan..  Wait; There is?  My mistake..

(Updated) Japan Meteorological Agency's Highly Unusual Storm Warning on TV: "Don't Go Outside"  EX-SKF.  Don't forget to watch the wind direction video!  Excerpts:

The warning comes from the government agency that prohibited its own researchers from disclosing any information regarding the dispersion of radioactive materials right after the Fukushima I Nuclear Power Plant accident. Many on Twitter are saying, "Why didn't they say the same thing on March 15 and 21 last year and warn us about radioactive plumes from Fukushima?"

Well, the answer is easy. Because issuing warnings about radioactive material dispersions was not in their job description. It still isn't.

Anyway, a highly unusual low is about to sweep through entire Japan from the Japan Sea side, and the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) decided to hold a press conference which was broadcasted on TV to warn people in the evening of April 4.
And:
Mr. Uchida said, "The wind speed in Kanto is expected to be 25 meters per second, which is almost like a typhoon wind. We expect the wind to be stronger than in the last weekend. In particular, from 6PM to 9PM, it is possible that the wind will be so strong that people may get knocked down by the wind. Transportation may be affected as it may be dangerous to drive a car. So tomorrow, take ample precaution by going home earlier than usual, or by not going out unless it is necessary to do so."

Side Note:  If Tokyo is irradiated, I say we give Japan Detroit.  The Japanese bring the revenue, the people, and the technology to rejuvenate Detroit.  They remake the city in their technological image.  The Japanese find Safe Haven.  And Detroit rises again.  I like that scenario..  The whole Detroit metro area looking like present day Hiroshima..

Powered by alternative energies, of course..  That's a nice pipe dream, right?

Clintonville’s reign of terror from mysterious booms continues

From The Post Crescent via The Extinction Protocol.  Excerpts:

Geological officials said Wednesday they are considering putting a seismometer in a Wisconsin city where a small earthquake was recorded last week after strong booms and rumblings shook residents once again. Clintonville police received 65 calls Tuesday night between 10:35 p.m. and 11:40 p.m. and another 19 calls came in between 3:25 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, Clintonville Police Chief Terry Lorge said. Several of the booms were heard by officials at City Hall, he said. Residents reported the most recent booming as the worst yet, city administrator Lisa Kuss said.

Interesting that the USGS is considering putting a seismometer in Clintonville..  Again..  You'd think if it registered a quake(albeit small) during an ongoing event of high visibility, they'd have kept that seismo there to determine a pattern.  Huh..

One more from The Extinction Protocol.  Seems like Pennsylvania feels left out.. ‘That noise was not thunder,’ Poconos residents say: Boom violently shakes houses in Pennsylvania  Excerpts: (Plum emphasis EP, red emphasis mine..)

Strong thunderstorms hit the Poconos Friday night, moving through shortly after 10 p.m. and continuing for at least a half hour, but the weather event that had folks talking was a loud sonic-like boom that shook houses at about 10:15 p.m. Gilda Spiotta of Long Pond said, “The shaking last night lasted unusually long. Didn’t sound like thunder, didn’t feel like thunder, was wondering if something happened on 380/80; tanker accident.” Another Long Pond resident, Lorene R. Allman-Mars: “My son was at the back door letting the dogs out and he reported that he saw a large flash of light fill the sky toward/above the FedEx distribution site on 940, then he heard a loud boom. It didn’t look like lightning; it looked like a bomb blew up in the air. I was on the second floor of the house; I didn’t see anything but I heard the boom and felt it shake the house. I actually felt it under my feet. The floors shook; I have never felt lightning shake the house like that before and we’ve been up here 20 years!” Some readers suggested an earthquake or an explosion, but said that definitely was no routine thunder. Meteorologist and Pocono weather expert Ben Gelber offered this explanation: “One possibility is that thunderstorms in our chilly environment near the surface tonight, associated with an inversion of warm air aloft, sound much louder.” He added, “The sound waves are refracted back to the surface and reverberate in ways that we normally do not experience as they bounce between the surface and the inversion near the base of the clouds."  (Maybe..)

Most conventional plausibility?  Positive lightning.  Those babies manifest some power!  But the unusually long shaking?  Still, maybe..  But prolonged shaking has not accompanied my personal experiences with Positive lightning..

I'd like to know how much area was effected by this event, as the booms in Clintonville, WI were initially limited to a 1.5 mile wide area, whereas booms in Montello, WI seemed to be heard by many more people throughout the town.  This "boom" was heard in multiple towns in Pennsylvania.  Is this the same phenomenon, or just coincidental timing?

And finally, back to Wisconsin for exploding tiles and a recoding of a genuine Clintonville Boom.

Enjoy your weekend!

Wisconsin Mystery Booms: The Booms Returneth..

Two from The Truth Behind The Scenes.  Clintonville: Dozens Of Louder Booms Rattle Town Again – March 28, 2012  Excerpts:

The booms have returned in Clintonville, reportedly louder and longer than before.

“Between the times of 10:35 and 10:50 p.m., we received 60 phone calls from residents indicating that they were again hearing very loud, booming, rumbling-type noises,” said Clintonville City Administrator Lisa Kuss.

“Some were indicating that it was even louder than it was last week.”
..
The fact that the booms are continuing to rattle the town will only increase suspicions that the earthquake explanation was merely a cover story for something else. Experts also expressed doubt at the official explanation, with Wisconsin-Madison geophysics professor Clifford Thurber suggesting the booms are originating from only about 100 feet below ground, ruling out the earthquake theory. Speculation as to the true source of the booms has raged. Explanations vary between everything from secret military tunneling to carbon sequestration, which has been known to cause artificial earthquakes in the past. Earthquakes in Wisconsin are extremely rare.
And:
For the same area of the town of Clintonville to be hit by two separate earthquakes in the space of a week is virtually impossible, unless the cause is man-made.

Dozens of plumes erupt – 10 states at the same time, USA – March 26, 2012  Excerpts:

Yesterday, a series of coinciding eruptive events .. dozens of plumes.. all appear / erupt at the same time … 1815 UTC / 215CDT

Dutchsinse report: Viewable throughout the south, midwest, and southwest USA – Texas, Oklahoma, Missouri, Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, Florida, South Carolina, and North Carolina… possibly more that I did not cover in this video … the chances of having this many wildfires pop up at once sometime right before 215pm CDT – these chances are astronomical if not on the edge of borderline, impossible (imo)..

Be sure to watch the video.  That simultaneous plume is intense.

The tag line from Fark:  (Emphasis mine)
"If you're high on hallucinogens and invisible shadow men start to annoy you, don't use a lighter and a spray can to defend yourself."
Headline:  Hallucinating men start fire, jump from second-story window, authorities say  Excerpts:

Two men on drugs hallucinated that they were being attacked and jumped from a second-story window late Monday after starting a fire to fight off the attacker, authorities said.

The men used a lighter and a spray can as a blow torch to defend themselves about 11 p.m. inside their apartment at Mohawk Manor, 3640 N. Birmingham Ave., but accidentally burned some clothes and then jumped to escape the fire, Fire Department spokesman Stan May said.
May said the men appeared to be "really high" and were scuffed up by the fall but were expected to be fine.

I'd like to hear what these guys saw that led to said hi jinx.  A lighter and spray can?  Very Die Hard-ish.  I'm guessing they didn't have guns.  Or they weren't that high/way, way too high to use them.  This could have gone from Jackass-level hilarity to tragic quite easily.

They really caught a break with the whole second-story-window-thing, huh?

Wisconsin Mystery Booms: Two More Theories..

Both are possible.

Yellowstone Supervolcano + Strange ‘Rumbles’ in Clintonville Wisconsin Explained  The Truth Behind The Scenes.  Excerpts:

Clintonville Wisconsin — be sure to search the terms … “marathon Wisconsin volcano” … “caldron reservoir” .. and “lake superior volcanic” . The nuclear power plant to the east is called the Kewaunee plant .. all these sites have ONE thing in common… deep earth shafts… pumped or filled full of water…. add in craton/plate pressure and a bit of deep earth magma surge underneath the plate as it gets pushed by the Pacific unrest… and you get underground explosions in Wisconsin near a dormant volcanic site.

..
From Water Dragged Down Into The Earth’s Mantle May Cause Volcanism And Plate Tectonics within the article..

When water is carried into the mantle, the mantle rock undergoes a low-temperature metamorphic process in which it is oxidized and hydrolyzed to form serpentinite, a rock named for its scaly surface.Water plays a completely different role at depth than it does on the surface of the Earth. Water infiltrating the mantle through faults hydrates the mantle rock on either side of the fault.

In a low temperature process called serpentinization, it transforms mantle rock such as the green periodotite into serpentinite, a rock with a dark scaly surface like a serpent’s skin.

As the slab plunges yet deeper, dehydration reactions release water, which at such great pressure and temperature exists as a super critical fluid that can drift through materials like a gas and dissolve them like a fluid. The fluid rises into the overlying mantle where it lowers the melting point of rock and triggers the violent eruptions of magma that created the Mariana Islands, to which Shore was sailing.

“We think that much of the water that goes down at the Mariana trench actually comes back out of the earth into the atmosphere as water vapor when the volcanoes erupt hundreds of miles away,” Wiens says.

The scientists will map the distribution of serpentinite in the subducting plate and overlying mantle, by looking for regions where certain seismic waves travel more slowly than usual.

Or:  Science proves accidentally what the strange noises you been hearing around the globe  Discussion thread from Godlike Productions.   The jist:  Scientists at Los Alamos create a magnetic field two million times stronger than Earth's magnetic field.  The sounds that field makes is similar to the sounds coming from Wisconsin.  The follow up video is not Wisconsin, but his point is made.

This too, could be a partial, or full explanation for the sounds, but what does that mean for our magnetoshpere?  What kind of pressure exerted do these sounds imply?
Also:  From Above, or Below?

Here's A Thought..

What if our Existence, our Universe, isn't as important as The Matrix as such:  Rather, what if We, no, What This Is is but One Scenario of One Game within One Singular Program within a Software Package that takes about one trillionth the equivalent RAM within The Matrix that World of Warcraft does on your computer?  All Personal and Planetary Circumstances are Custom to that Scenario.  Scenarios can be almost parallel, or completely unique to each World, each Personal Universe.  "We" are all here to Learn.

Also, a la the 1983 film "War Games," each World scenarios, like the movie's World-War scenarios, began to play themselves out with increasing rapidity, until scenarios flash by in nano-seconds.  Maybe all-that-ever-was- and-ever-will-be here on Planet Earth is a minuscule portion of a very sophisticated algorithm playing out all chosen scenarios to their logical end:  Self-destruction for some, Success for others.  I have no idea, though, what those implications might be.  Or how many conclusions might, in the end, be drawn.

Only an Entity of Omnipotent Sophistication could create such equations.

Now meditate on Infinity.

Now meditate on Now.

Agree/Disagree:  Sure.

I thank you for your Time and Thought.

Two From Television

And two from The Onion, too!

Fewer people watched Community last night, but it's still doing better than it was  Excerpts:

After such a strong return, Community’s ratings experienced a probably inevitable correction last night, dropping by about 20 percent from around 5 million viewers to around 3.9 million, with a 1.7 ratings share among adults 18 to 49.
Yet:
These are slightly higher numbers than the show was pulling in the fall, and in fact, Community was the overall ratings winner on NBC’s Thursday night, outscoring both 30 Rock and Up All Night (to say nothing of the increasingly spiraling Awake). Combining that small yet significant audience bump with that small yet significant victory, as well as Comedy Central’s recent move to put Community into syndication—and of course, all of those animated GIFs you’ve been making—we’d say it all bodes well for the show’s chances ..

Best comedy on Network/Basic Cable television among several funny comedies.  Not only "Best," but "Funny" too.  Six seasons and a movie.  Yes, please!

Speaking of Awake..  “Kate Is Enough”   The AV Club (The Onion).  Excerpts:

We don’t really know which world is real and which is the fantasy; we don’t even know if this is the right question to be asking. One of the smartest creative choices Awake has made so far is the show’s willingness not to dig too deeply into its premise.
..
As genre protagonists go, Michael is of the stoic variety. At first glance, he appears calm, patient, and mildly befuddled by life, like someone’s just told a joke he doesn’t quite get. It’s easy to overlook the effectiveness of Jason Isaacs' performance, because he isn’t doing a lot of obvious heavy-lifting. Why should he? Hannah and Rex are the ones who are suffering; they’re the ones who lost someone. For Michael, life is pretty much the same as it’s always been. Things are just a little more complicated.

Except that isn’t true, and the more you watch Isaacs, and get to know Michael, the more you realize he knows it. Awake benefits from not poking its premise too hard, and this single-mindedness stems directly from the show’s leading man. He’s a sleepwalker, moving from scene to scene with his eyes half-open, because his only objective is to sustain this new reality for as long as he can. Other genre shows introduce a strange premise and then provide a hero whose central goal is to solve the mystery; here, we have someone who would sacrifice all he has just to make sure that mystery stays in place. Usually, that’s the antagonist’s job, which sets up the potential for an interesting dynamic down the line, but for right now, it’s enough that Michael’s objective is to make whatever is happening to him work for as long as he possibly can, and to do that, he needs to balance the demands of two worlds, maintain his composure, and do his job in both, while at the same time avoiding any substantial divergence or change. And once again, I am impressed by the perfection of this as a metaphor for grief: a hero who spends his every waking minute trying to stand still.
And:
At some point, the show will most likely come to some sort of conclusion about what’s “real” and what isn’t, but for right now, we’re in a nebulous place where nothing is exactly real, but everything matters anyway. Because of this, the episode at times is less like a cop drama, and more like watching a man’s internal struggles played out in real time.

Awake is unfolding beautifully.  It'll be a shame when NBC cancels it.  If I made the programming decisions(keeping the same shows minus The Office swapped for Up All Night/all times Central..)?  Awake 7-8. Up All Night at  8.  Parks and Recreation at 8:30.  30 Rock at 9.  Community at 9:30.  Awake is no longer up against  The Mentalist, and now up against Big Bang.  The big difference is there's now a genre choice between. NBC and CBS the entire night!  Just by taking Community away from Big Bang's dominant 7p.m. slot, NBC could grow Community pretty quickly.  Let's face it, if The Mentalist sucks that night, or it's a re-run, that's a ton of people right there!  NBC should really consider some long term growth in aspects of their programming.  CBS owns the ratings every Thursday.  But I think NBC has better shows.  They just need the opportunity to grow until more people find out about them.  NBC has the programming.  In order to beat CBS on Thursdays, NBC needs patience.

The type of people who love The Mentalist would also love Awake.  Now they don't compete!  Person of Interest is a clear choice from Up All Night and Parks and Recreation.  If it were me, I'd definitely give the people who love 30 Rock and Community the chance to get home late and still see two of their favorite shows before The News.  Research indicates Community fans are more urban and get home later in the evening.  It seems like a perfect fit for both shows.  Note:  As 30 Rock is in its sixth season, it is not new, but has never connected, even initially, with a larger core audience in its single slot.  Now that both WGN and Comedy Central have picked it up, people are starting to Get It.  People's awareness of 30 Rock is just now where it should have been all along.  That is the premise to build upon..

Wisconsin Mystery Booms: This Explanation Is Not It, Or, At Least, All Of It..

Wisconsin Town Figures Out Source of Mystery Booms  Newser.  Excerpts:

The mysterious booms heard in Clintonville, Wisconsin, had experts stumped—but there may be a simple explanation. "The mystery is solved. We have experienced an earthquake here in Clintonville,"
..
..explains that the fact that Clintonville's soil and granite isn't like what's normally found under towns suffering earthquakes.
And:
Portable detectors picked up a magnitude 1.5 earthquake—which can only be felt within a 5-mile radius—early Tuesday morning. The devices make their way around the country, and very few are in the state; it was a pure "fluke" that they were in the right place at the right time, adds the city official.

Not that booms don't occur with earthquakes; they do.  But not always, and usually of larger magnitude.  So maybe..  There could be an earthquake swarm in Clintonville.  Have many EQ's does the USGS think happened before the recorded EQ?  Have more sounds/booms occurred?  That equipment would still be there, or was it "Mystery solved:  Let's get the fuck outta here!"  And the seismometers are already gone?

And what of Montello?  The eyewitness reports seem to all point to more intense episodes.  Wouldn't the USGS make the effort to get some seismos just 80 miles to the south west of Clintonville if Montello's shaking harder?  Assuming seismometers are still in Clintonville, how many quakes have they recorded since?  Also, only a small quadrant of Clintonville was effected, opposed to most of Montello.  Also, according to reports from Montello, the boom events overlapped, with Clintonville starting Sunday, and Montello starting Tuesday.  How many quakes have been recorded in Montello?
