And.. We're back. I would swear not three minutes ago, there were Two 7.3 earthquakes listed on USGS, not one, as the current status asserts. Two. Like the headline I had just finished typing, actually containing the word "twin." Huh. Link to USGS. I must have imagined the phantom quake being 100 miles south of the listed quake.
Odd where my mind takes me..
Have you noticed a lack of 7.0 + magnitude earthquakes recently? According to this poster at GLP, the planet averages at least one earthquake a month that strong or stronger, and the USGS hasn't listed a 7 or higher eq since April 11. Have we cured earthquakes?
Maybe the plates are locked.. Maybe that's not such a good thing. What event will change this static dynamic, and how explosive will it be?
Two entry post from The Extinction Protocol. Check out the creepy picture: Yellow means caution.. Excerpts:
(From Fukushima Diary) At this moment, people in Osaka and Kobe are tweeting the color of Osaka bay looks strange. From the picture, it looks pale yellow. One follower on the site tweeted: “Moving from parents house to Mikage. Osaka bay looked yellowish when I saw from an eminence. Am afraid it’s a sign.” From local citizens, it became strange color before the great Hanshin earthquake (1995) as well.
(From Democratic Underground)The region is near the area of a recent sardine mega-fish kill. In May of this year, Japanese seismologist warned of the dangers of a triple-earthquake strike in the area: “If three earthquakes simultaneously occurred along the Nankai Trough located in the seabed off central to western Japan, high-rise buildings in Osaka would be shaken by long-period ground motion five times stronger than that in the Great East Japan Earthquake, researchers have predicted. A group of researchers with the University of Tokyo made the announcement on May 21 at the Japan Geoscience Union Meeting, currently under way in Chiba. The group also speculates that, if the three temblors — the Tokai, Tonankai and Nankai quakes — took place together, high-rise buildings in Tokyo would be shaken by long-period ground motion twice to three times stronger than that in the Great East Japan Earthquake, which struck northeast Japan on March 11, 2011.
Stay safe, global neighbors..
Check out the map. While the earthquakes happened 200-215 miles away, they are located in the midst of four plates. Anomalous, or Fore shock?
Worldwide, RSOE has logged quite a few larger quakes in the last few days. Let's see if this week's busy full moon and new sunspots add any pepper to the already spicy tectonic mix.
I'm a little hungry.
