Doomed German space telescope to plunge to Earth on October 23rd

The massive ROSAT X-ray space telescope continues to descend toward Earth. Latest estimates place the re-entry around noon Universal Time on Oct. 23rd. Uncertainties exceed 10 hours, which makes it impossible to say exactly where ROSAT will re-enter.

New Mexico shaken by ‘historically unusual’ 3.8 magnitude earthquake

A 3.8 magnitude earthquake “is unusual for this area, historically,” Richard Aster, a professor of Geophysics at New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology, wrote the New Mexican in an email Monday. “The present estimate of the epicenter is about half way between Santa Fe and Espanola. This is a large enough event that there may be felt aftershocks.” Monday’s temblor, at 3.8, is small compared to the earth-moving quakes recorded in Japan, California or other hot zones. But in New Mexico, 3.8 is a major event.

Evidence Builds: Deadly Gravity Wave Approaching Earth  Pakalert Press.  Excerpts:

Gigantic gravitational waves up to 100 billion light years long could be warping the universe into a twisted maze compressing and squeezing out the edges of space-time like an old rag being wrung dry. Now evidence is mounting that one of these rogue waves may be on its way towards Earth…

100 billion light year long gravity waves pushing and twisting the universe outward? That’s the astounding theory being proposed by some astrophysicists to explain why space is inflating at different rates in different regions.

The scientists’ hypothesis may have arrived like an interstellar cavalry for harried cosmologists. The theory of almost everything has been slipping towards almost nothing.

How?

Careful measurements of the universe’s expansion (called inflation) have revealed alarming anomalies. Not every region of space is expanding at the same rate.

Why is that important?

Well, it’s raising concerns because if the universe is inflating irregularly that could mean all the laws governing basic physics may be flawed…or downright wrong.

And if those laws are wrong, much of science is wrong, including the distance to other stars, the laws that affect many experiments—even the age of the universe.

Occupy's global impact:  Rome edition.

Greece heads for standstill before austerity vote  Reuters.  Excerpts:

Greece's two main unions, representing about half the four million-strong workforce, are preparing for one of the biggest protests since the crisis began two years ago, likely to hit food and fuel supplies, disrupt transport and leave hospitals run by skeleton staff.

The strike is set for Wednesday and Thursday to coincide with the vote in parliament, expected to take place in two stages on both days.

Memories are fresh of battles between riot police and stone-throwing protesters at anti-austerity demonstrations in June and sporadic incidents were reported on Monday with a petrol bomb hurled at a garbage truck in a northern suburb of Athens.

Trailing badly in opinion polls, Papandreou has defied a wave of protests, pledging to push through a deeply unpopular package that includes tax rises, pay and pension cuts, job layoffs and changes to collective pay deals.
And:

Trapped in deep recession and choked by a debt equivalent to some 162 percent of gross domestic product, Greece has been shut out of bond markets and would run out of money within weeks without international support.

Inspectors from the EU and the International Monetary Fund were in Athens last week and have recommended releasing an 8 billion euro (6.9 billion pound) aid tranche to enable the government to keep paying its bills past November.

That will only provide temporary relief and they have told Papandreou's struggling team to push ahead with further belt-tightening, structural reforms and privatisations, on top of what are already the deepest cuts in Greece's postwar history.

Wow.  Not even a fraction of what all is happening.

I'm Back. Kind of..

I have been, for quite some time now, involved with or effected by multiple family health situations.  Recently, the intensity of those situations have escalated.  To the detriment of several creative projects, all I've done is watch You Tube music videos.  One can only sustain a certain level of tension for so long before retreating and recharging..

My heart's still not in it.  "It" being multiple endeavors, including this blog.  But it will be again.  In the meantime, news continues, and will continue, happening, also escalating.  Whatever creates "News" is creating at a more accelerated pace.  This is the time just before Everything Changed, whatever change that may be..

We are both at the apex and nadir of our development as species.  Which will triumph?  Or will an asteroid (or some other extinction event) make it all irrelevant?  We live in Uncharted Territory.  Look around.  Yeah, we're already here.

Here..  Comes..  History!

Meanwhile, In Pre-Mayhem Greece..

FT Report That Greek Bailout Package On The Verge Of Collapse After Surge In Greek Funding Needs Sends Stocks, Euro Plunging From Highs  Tyler Durden for Zero Hedge.  Excerpts:

Wondering what just caused the market to slump? Take a wild guess. That's right - Greece. Minutes after Greece passed a vote in which it promised to promise to promise to consider collecting 1998-1999 taxes (even as all of its tax collectors are about to go on permanent strike), the FT was breaking news that while the Troika was "bailing out" Greece in the past years, the country was spending itself into an  even greater oblivion. As a result, the terms of the July 21 Second Greek Bailout will most certainly need to be renegotiated, with banks having to take even greater write downs on the bond exchange, and with far more capital having to be injected into the country.

The Downward Spiral tightens; speeds up.

Strikes and protests mount against austerity in Greece  World Socialist Web Site.  Found it on Rense.  Excerpts:

“Today, it is no longer safe for us to go onto the streets,” a politician of the Greek ruling party PASOK told the Frankfurter Rundschau. “We are the government and we are alone.”

Widespread popular anger against the government in Greece has only intensified following the latest round of austerity measures. Incidents abound of politicians of both the social democratic PASOK and the conservative opposition New Democracy (ND) being pelted with eggs and on occasion stones when they show themselves in public. Angry crowds have repeatedly besieged the homes of politicians and chanted “thieves, thieves” and “Give the money back!”

According to surveys conducted by Eurobarometer, 82 percent of Greeks have lost confidence in the government and 83 percent distrust the parliament. Sixty-seven percent no longer trust the European Union. Other polls show that PASOK would today win just 15.5 percent of the vote in a new election.

It's all hanging by only several threads..  The Big Question remains:  How big the shock waves will be, and how hard those impacts will be felt.  Globally, of course.

Yeah, I Bet They Were More Than Speechless..

Holy shit.

The person who invited this dude to the BBC no longer works there.  At one point, the announcer references the dropped jaws around the newsroom..  Rastani tells waay too many secrets here, and will experience some form of blowback.  Will it be from those in the financial sector for talking too much, or will it be all the poor people watching him sneer and gloat at his future enrichment from their  money?

Another big secret revealed:  TRADERS DON'T CARE WHAT HAPPENS.  They will make money at your devastating expense, and it will all happen very soon.  And it's a matter of fact within the industry.  And they can't wait to steal your life savings. They salivate for Doom.  Remember that when you watch them talking, feigning concern about the "dire situation"..

Hang on; Financial Television is about to get even more interesting.  And by "interesting," I mean "full-tilt batshit."

The Week In Review: Under-Reported Stories Edition

Leftist parties win control of French Senate  From Raw Story.  Excerpts:

France's left-wing opposition struck a blow against embattled centre-right leader President Nicolas Sarkozy's hopes for re-election Sunday, winning a historic victory in a senatorial vote.

The Socialist Party and its Communist and Green allies won enough seats to give the left control of the upper house for the first time in French history, a stepping stone towards a presidential win in seven months' time.

Flammable gas detected in Fukushima pipe: TEPCO  Mysinchew.  Excerpts:

Flammable gas has been detected inside a pipe linked to a nuclear reactor at Japan's crippled Fukushima atomic power plant, its operator said Saturday.

Tokyo Electric Power Co (TEPCO) was unable to identify the gas but nonetheless said it was unlikely there would be an explosion in the reactor.

The company has been injecting nitrogen into the reactor so that the level of oxygen inside becomes low enough to prevent blasts.

But a TEPCO spokesman said workers at the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant measured a 100-percent flammable gas in a pipe connected to the power station's reactor number one.

"It is not clear exactly where and how this gas was created," the spokesman told AFP. "We are considering ways to deal with it.

"It is likely that we will continue the survey the gas to identify it and use nitrogen to bring its level low enough" to avoid explosions, he said.

It's a gas, gas, gas, gas, gas: Scientists think solar system may have had a FIFTH gas planet  The Daily Mail Online.  Excerpts:

Scientists believe our solar system may have once had a fifth gas planet that was ejected from the solar system and 'orphaned'.

..
A new study by David Nesvorny, from the Southwest Research Institute in Colorado, U.S., used different computer simulations to explore what the solar system looked like four billion years ago.

He discovered that back then planets had not yet settled into their existing orbits as they migrated and moved around.

However, after a series of tests he worked out that the solar system we recognise today could never have emerged without the existence of a fifth planet.

He came to this conclusion by using several different starting positions and ran computer simulations using the four gas planets - Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune - but discovered they were to large and one would destroy another eventually.

Even using configurations where the gas planets survived, the solar system's rocky planets like Mars and Venus did not.

However, once Mr Nesvorny had introduced a fifth planet into the equation he found the odds of the current solar system emerging increased dramatically.

This theory is backed up by the recent discovery of many rogue planets.

This is exciting..  Japan: piles of tsunami debris turning into giant bonfires  The Telegraph.  Excerpts:

Piles of decomposing organic waste, metals and rubble from the devastated towns of north-east Japan have been bursting into fire, posing a new hazard to emergency teams tasked with clearing away the debris and people who are still picking through the remains of their homes.

Geomagnetic storm warning issued for September 26th  The Extinction Protocol.  Excerpts:

.. “Sunspot 1302 poses a continued threat for X-class solar flares.” We’re also seeing some coronal hole perforation of the Sun, so ionized particles will now also  have a more efficient medium of propagation should a large solar flare erupt from the sunspot. The next few days could get interesting. According to NOAA, the chances of another X-Class flare erupting over the next 48 hours are 40%.

Elenin Continues To Perplex

Elenin Removes Her Mask, Breath Taking  From You Tube.

I don't know..  Those Stereo B images are interesting..  Whatever "that" is, is big.

I am troubled, though..  Having lived through multiple comet passages over the course of my 40 plus years, it's interesting to note the lack of coverage Elenin has received.

Comets have always been a staple of Science/Human Interest.  But not this one..  It's all over the Net, to be sure, but almost nowhere to be found on MSM.  That silence is pretty loud, and that's what troubles me the most.

And the question remains:  What is this thing (or not) that is (or isn't) coming right at /or near us?
Elenin:  Potentially terrifying, totally exhausting.

Still Reading The Bot Report

If you'd like, you can, too!  Go here.

Skylab 2.0 (Zany-Random-Doom-Remix)..

Head's up!  Or not..  No worries, if you're in North America..  Watch Out!  Head fake/Just kiddin'..  BAM!
So remember to keep looking up while hiding underneath something sturdy..  Real sturdy..

Meanwhile, I have a really hard time believing authorities have no way of knowing where the satellite will land, but they do know that it won't be North America..  The best mathematicians and scientists with all their advanced theorems and video and tracking technology can't tell us the trajectory of one satellite and its possible debris trails?  Maybe it is as simple as they say, and I'm the one overestimating the intellectual abilities of Earth's Scientific Elite.  That must be it.  I mean, seriously;  Not even an idea of potential landfalls?

Just because I'm paranoid doesn't mean I can't see that maybe I'm too paranoid..  Or not.  The jury is still out..

Online gamers crack AIDS enzyme puzzle

Awesome.  The implications are Huge.  Not only for AIDS research, but for the burgeoning awareness and a newfound intellectual power found within a Collective.  From Raw Story.  Excerpts:

Online gamers have achieved a feat beyond the realm of Second Life or Dungeons and Dragons: they have deciphered the structure of an enzyme of an AIDS-like virus that had thwarted scientists for a decade.
..
Their target was a monomeric protease enzyme, a cutting agent in the complex molecular tailoring of retroviruses, a family that includes HIV.

Their weapon?  A science video game.

Developed in 2008 by the University of Washington, it is a fun-for-purpose video game (Foldit) in which gamers, divided into competing groups, compete to unfold chains of amino acids -- the building blocks of proteins -- using a set of online tools.

To the astonishment of the scientists, the gamers produced an accurate model of the enzyme in just three weeks.

Which also leads to a milestone of equal or greater importance:

It is believed to be the first time that gamers have resolved a long-standing scientific problem.

"We wanted to see if human intuition could succeed where automated methods had failed," Firas Khatib of the university's biochemistry lab said in a press release.

"The ingenuity of game players is a formidable force that, if properly directed, can be used to solve a wide range of scientific problems."

One of Foldit's creator's, Seth Cooper had a much less imaginative explanation for the discovery:

"People have spatial reasoning skills, something computers are not yet good at," he said.

Although..

"Games provide a framework for bringing together the strengths of computers and humans. The results in this week's paper show that gaming, science and computation can be combined to make advances that were not possible before."

Advances not possible before..

What, and now How, we Create, accelerates..  The Global Consciousness begins to form, to achieve cohesion..  And the Pace continues to quicken..

Wow;  We live in Interesting Times!

Hurry Up, Kids; World War 3 Is On! If You Miss The First Five Minutes, You're Gonna Be Confused!

So far, its all quiet on the Western MSM front (Red Alert!  Tom Brady said something scandalous!), but the tension has definitely ramped up between Greece and Israel and Turkey(and consequently, Russia, the U.S., and China..).

The reasons vary, but combine for some potentially deadly inertia.  Turkey is angry because of Israel's actions concerning the Freedom Flotilla earlier this year.  Israel is pissed because Turkey supports political reform in Middle Eastern countries involved in 2011's Arab Spring, reforms that will further isolate Israel, and the Israelis are also mad that   Turkey downgraded their diplomatic status.  So now Israel has started hanging out with Turkish enemies the Greeks, the Armenians AND the Kurds.  This all pretty intense, seeing how these two nations(Israel and Turkey) were strong allies only months ago..

And now, the Greeks and the Turks are at odds of Turkey's oil exploration in the Mediterranean.  Due to the activation of existing defense pacts, if hostilities escalate, Israel and Greece (and Russia!) will be on one side, Turkey, Iran, and the United States will be on the other.  Uh-Oh!  And to really send the whole situation into Defcon 1 land, China might end up siding with Turkey, Iran, and the U.S.  Overlapping diplomatic and defense pacts are awesome!  And they'll probably insure our complete involvement, confusion, and ultimately, destruction!

And please, bear in mind, my explanation is terribly simplistic, not factoring in other alliances with nation-states (Syria, Lebanon..), political factions(Hezbollah, PKK), escalating tensions between Palestinians and Israelis, Palestine's lobbying for U.N. Statehood status, and rich, western countries sticking their ass in this ever-growing potential apocalypse..  And the fact these people have hated each other for a millennia..

Imagine a tangled ball of Christmas lights the size of your house.  Untangle it.  Oh yeah; it's electrified.  That's kinda what we're dealing with, here..

It's a good thing this will be on television, or I'd be worried that it's all real!

Look Into The Eyes Of A Madman..

And then read his crazy "christian" words..  Pat Robertson says Alzheimer's makes divorce OK.  Century Link News via AP.  Does anyone take this obvious Dementia patient seriously anymore?  (Note:  My father suffers from late stage Alzheimer's, so I'm not flippant about his mental state.  Robertson is definitely suffering from some kind of neurological illness.  He HAS to be..)  Excerpts:

Religious broadcaster Pat Robertson told his "700 Club" viewers that divorcing a spouse with Alzheimer's is justifiable because the disease is "a kind of death."

During the portion of the show where the one-time Republican presidential candidate takes questions from viewers, Robertson was asked what advice a man should give to a friend who began seeing another woman after his wife started suffering from the incurable neurological disorder.

"I know it sounds cruel, but if he's going to do something, he should divorce her and start all over again, but make sure she has custodial care and somebody looking after her," Robertson said.

The chairman of the Christian Broadcasting Network, which airs the "700 Club," said he wouldn't "put a guilt trip" on anyone who divorces a spouse who suffers from the illness, but added, "Get some ethicist besides me to give you the answer."

Nice.  Is it wrong to want to punch an elderly dementia patient in the face?  And just in case you think this is a fluke misstatement, here's some other Robertson zingers.  I bet a couple of those really stung his butthole on their way out..

Enjoy your quiet time, Pat.  I bet your mind screams when you're by yourself..

Go Ahead, Punk: Make My Gay!

Clint Eastwood: ‘I don’t give a f*ck’ if gays marry.  Awesome.  From Raw Story.  Excerpts:

Don't expect to see him marching in a Pride parade anytime soon, but gays may have found an unexpected ally in Oscar-winning director Clint Eastwood.
..
"These people who are making a big deal out of gay marriage?" Eastwood opined. "I don't give a fuck about who wants to get married to anybody else! Why not?! We're making a big deal out of things we shouldn't be making a deal out of."

"They go on and on with all this bullshit about 'sanctity' -- don't give me that sanctity crap! Just give everybody the chance to have the life they want."

It's nice to see some old-school Republicans still exist, and that a few feel compelled to speak up.  Eastwood's right:  We have bigger problems than who kisses who.  Please..  Get the fuck over it and concentrate on the many, many real problems our country faces!

Remember:  We won't stop circling the drain until we fix America's Real problems, and deal with America's Real Enemies.  And they ain't the boys and girls who hang out at those bars in the bad parts of town.  Deal with it.

Just for this, I'll rent Gran Torino, after all..

Massive New Radiation Releases Possible from Fukushima … Especially If Melted Core Materials Hit Water

The Smiths: Songs You Should Know

Most of The Smiths entire canon can be summed up in a one word theme:  Longing.  Longing for the love(and kind of love)Morrissey never got, longing for a world that could, but doesn't exist, longing for the  anonymous people that populate their songs; the foolish, the dying, the comatose, those longing for their own version of love.

And no one did it better. Those sexy, sad, melodic, and obsessive refrains work as well today as they did when new.  Enjoy.  Note:  If you don't have the volume turned all the way up, there's always Louder.  Go Louder.

They Didn’t Win—We Lost

Gonzalo Lira quotes The Great Emancipator (and Prophet) Abraham Lincoln.

I May Have Misspoke..

Or then again, maybe not.  There seems to be some confusion (still) regarding the identity of the Fukushima Mystery Man, who appeared on a live cam August 28th.  As I posted Tuesday, it seemed to be Enson Inoue, after he admitted to going up to the reactor site at Fukushima, but now, another man has come forward to claim credit.  Ex-SKF.  Excerpts:

Some of you may have read about and seen the video/screenshot of a mysterious worker who appeared in TEPCO's Livecam of Fukushima I Nuclear Power Plant.

Well, he's gone semi-public with his email to a high ranking administration official on September 8, protesting the harsh working conditions for the workers, and he has posted his statement and photographs inside the plant on his website:

http://pointatfuku1cam.nobody.jp/e.html

Mystery solved.  Maybe.  A poster replies to the Ex-SKF link with this..  "Anonymous said...

there is a second man said to be him - this one has a name...
when i posted the fuku1live-video at my youtube channel a few days later somebody commented:
‘the man in this video is an mma fighter, fix the link below and read the article
mmafighting.[com]/2011/09/04/enson-inoue-takes-covert-trip-to-fukushima-nuclear-power-plant/
he went there to feed stay dogs and volunteer in a hospital’
his name is Enson Inoue.
you will have to search this name there, as the page opens not directly.
i actually believe this is true.  he is holding his arm horizontally for about 20 minutes, try yourself to do it longer than one ;-)"

He's right:  That's difficult, and requires A Lot of strength.  After watching some of Inoue's video diaries, he looks a little bigger (more muscular)than the man in the suit.  I'm not saying that it's not him, what I'm saying is that my opinion has shifted bact to "undecided."  Not that it really matters.

Inoue got attention for his work and website, and this still unknown man got attention for his grievances regarding TEPCO's operational policies.  Looks like everything turned out great!  Except for that whole Fukushima thing, ya know..
