Oklahoma Continues To Rumble..

6th earthquake in 4 days recorded in Oklahoma  Yahoo News.  Excerpts:

Another small earthquake has been reported in Oklahoma.

The U.S. Geological Survey says a 3.2 magnitude quake struck just before 6 a.m. Sunday about 27 miles northeast of Oklahoma City. The Logan County Sheriff's Office says no damage was reported

On Saturday, a 2.4 magnitude tremor was recorded at about 7 a.m. about 50 miles northeast of Oklahoma City near Sparks.

Sunday's earthquake is the sixth in the area since Thursday, when a 3.7 magnitude quake was recorded near Prague. Three more were recorded Friday.

Mid South Flooding: From Desperate To Devastating

More Rain for Already Flooded Arkansas, Ohio Valley

More flooding is inevitable from Arkansas to the Ohio Valley since the already water-logged region will not be able to handle the additional rain that will pour down through Tuesday.

The potential exists for 3 to 5 inches of rain to soak the corridor from northeastern Texas to the Ohio Valley tonight into Tuesday.

That amount of rain would alone raise concerns for flash flooding. But with the ground already saturated and rivers severely flooding, new flooding issues are inevitable.

Army Corps prepares to blow up Missouri levee

The Army Corps of Engineers on Sunday began moving barges into position to blow up a levee along the Missouri side of the Mississippi River after the U.S. Supreme Court refused to intervene, removing the last legal barrier.

Floodwaters could be released as early as Monday afternoon.

Missouri had tried to stop the levee's destruction but lost in lower courts. The high court decided not to hear the state's appeal, said Robyn Ziegler, spokeswoman for the Illinois attorney general's office. ..
Army Corps Maj. Gen. Michael Walsh ordered a start to preparations to blast a 2-mile-wide section of the levy near Birds Point, Mo., as rain continued to swell the Mississippi past already record levels, spokesman James Pogue said.

No place else for floodwaters to go -- Mississippi now past 41 feet

The officials emphasized that the last chance to stem the rising Mississippi River ran out today, as reservoirs that hold the Tennessee River back from the Ohio River filled to capacity

The Ohio flows into the Mississippi River, which is expected to crest Wednesday in Cairo at 61.5 feet.

The perfect storm of heavy rain combined with the rising Mississippi River is causing the local tributaries to flood areas around the county. The Mississippi was at 41.44 feet as of 6 p.m. Sunday, and its high waters are now colliding with the inflow from swollen tributaries, giving that surge of water no place to go.

Remember, this is only the first days of May.  There will be much more water in our future.  The situation is way past dire, and the outlook continues to deteriorate as the water continues to rise..

Two Earthquakes Hit Guy, AR. One Was A 4.7 Magnitude. Local Hillbillies Shaken; Stirred..

SPRINGFIELD —
Just after 11 p.m. (11:00:50) Sunday, a 4.7 magnitude earthquake registered near Guy, Arkansas.

The quake was felt as far north as Ebenezer and Ozark, Missouri, as far west as Eureka Springs, Arkansas, and as far northeast as Cabool and Willow Springs, Missouri.

The USGS reports, 18-minutes later, an apparent aftershock.  A second earthquake near Guy registered at 3.8 magnitude.

So, wow..  Earthquake, huh?  I guarantee Monday will be a busy day for the insurance agencies..  Lots of policies bought today..  Lots of hillbillies, jawin' at the grocery store.  And a lot more people will now take the possibility of a catastrophic earthquake in the SW Missouri NW Arkansas area seriously, that's for sure..

I didn't feel it.  And that makes the odd sounding thunder I half paid attention to actually earthquake booms.

At this time, we (The area effected is my area..) are still under a tornado watch until 3 a.m..  My dog's been acting very aloof and generally odd today, which isn't like her at all.  I wrote her behavior off as pre-thunderstorm nerves, but in hindsight, maybe it was earthquake jitters..  We might have sedated her maybe once before in the last almost eight years, (I got a prescription for doggie downers a couple years ago, but forget to use them until it's too late. Events that effect her happen infrequently, and I get a little scattered..  I should be more proactive, but am not..) but this was, at the most, the second time ever for her.  She was flyin' highhigh at 11:00, but did lift her head for the booms, got up to run, but was just too..  fluid..  to go too far.  So she laid back down.  It appears that she enjoys the sedation.

A little while later I heard some more thunder from the oncoming storm, which almost magically, according to the radar, split open and missed us, save for a little rain.  The dog is now on a blanket on the couch, almost snoring.  The house is almost quiet.

And here I sit, staring, typing, staring, and hoping this was not a foreshock or an omen, portending a larger, more active future, while the spectre of Earthquake rises, almost simultaneously, within the Ozarkian populace.

I hope that History never writes the passage, "At 11:00 p.m. on February 27, 2011 the first earthquake hit.  Locals felt the rumbling over a large area in both Arkansas and Missouri, but viewed the quake with curiousity, rather than as a warning.  That perspective turned out to be catastrophic.."

Creepy, right?

Magnetic field changes activate the trigeminal brainstem complex in a migratory bird

Non-nerds need not apply.. After reading the Abstract, I think my ears are bleeding.. Bottom line: The trigeminal nerve in birds transmit magnetic information to the brain, and magnetic disturbance effects that information. Two pronged thought(s): If this is, in part, an explanation for the mass bird deaths, can the same be said for the fish/amphibian die offs? Might fish have a similar "sonar" navigational system, and/or might their nervous systems be effected by a sudden change in magnetism? As of yesterday, no official explanation for the fish deaths in Ozark, Arkansas(according to this horribly written article--scroll down mid-way) has been identified as the cause.
Solar magnetic activity during the three week apex of animal die-offs was low(Jan.1-21), so could tectonic activity or a pole shift generate enough and varied magnetic disturbance to this end? Or maybe, something else..
Now that Solar flare activity has increased, might we see similar events? If not; why?

Bird Die Off: Alternate Theory

ALERT!!! This is How the Mass Bird Death Happened - The New Madrid Fault may produce MASSIVE EARTHQUAKE soon!  This one combines two unexplained variables I couldn't define:  A gaseous or chemical (or influenza strain) release would effect a wider range of species, and the sudden-ness of the kill, and resulting physical trauma to the birds.  The poster explains..

Birds are very sensitive to electrostatic charges. A simple thunder cloud will irritate a bird severely. This is why birds fly low to the ground just before a storm, to avoid the very uncomfortable charges in the air.

In Arkansas there is one of the Worlds Largest Quartz deposits underground. Quartz is piezoelectric which means a charge develops over the surface of the quartz when pressure is applied to the crystal. The charge is millions of volts but it happens so fast its nearly harmless to people on a small scale. This is how some lighters work. A hammer hits a quartz device releasing a spark.

Anyways, the recent earthquake has placed new pressures on the quartz deposits in Arkansas. This results in a massive discharge of billions of volts of electricity. Think how a small piece of quartz the size of a pea can light a lighter. Now think about millions of Tons of quartz discharging under the extreme pressures the Earth can push.

At some point, the charges below created a brief surface charge, positive charge, during a discharge event. The electrostatic charge is immense and knocks the birds out cold in flight. The birds are still alive though, just knocked unconscious. The birds that were flying high were the ones killed upon impact. Blunt force trauma. The birds that were in the trees survived. Some birds like to fly high, others fly low. This explains why it was species specific as the birds that flew high were the ones to die.

The poster theorizes that this quartz sparking action means there will be a large earthquake event along the New Madrid Seismic Zone sooner rather than later.  As I write this, I am located within what would be the effected area, so I hope not.  But I will be buying some extra water in the next few days, just in case..

Edit:  I must clarify..  When I said wider range of species, I am making the assumption the original poster assumed the fish and bird kill were unrelated(although it doesn't fully rule out an event relationship), as other types of birds were seemingly unaffected.  This continues to develop..

Guy Keeps On Shakin'..

Earthquake 'swarm' rattles Arkansas town and its residents Excerpts:

The Arkansas Geological Survey is trying to unravel a mystery: What is causing earthquakes in the town of Guy, Arkansas?

Since September 20, the community of 549 residents north of Little Rock has experienced an almost constant shaking from 487 measurable earthquakes.

"We've had 15 today including a 3.1 (magnitude) from this morning," Scott Ausbrooks, geohazards supervisor for the Geological Survey, said Monday. "These are shallow quakes between two and eight kilometers (between one-and-a-quarter and five miles) below the surface."
..
"This time last year we had 39 quakes total for the entire state," said Ausbrooks.

And, while some still want to blame fracking, geologists still don't know for sure..
